Collins Aerospace Trusted Systems seeks a self-motivated research engineer with experience developing critical embedded computer-based systems. The position is within the Collins Aerospace advanced technologies organization, working with Collins product teams and external research sponsors to extend both the state of the art and the state of the practice. The candidate must have a passion for bringing rigor to computer-based system development.

Current investigations create and demonstrate new methods and tools for embedded system development. Relevant technologies include architectural modeling and analysis, automated safety analysis, model-checking, automated theorem proving, language development, high assurance microkernels, SMT solvers, assured hardware/software generation, language translation, and mathematical specification. Ongoing projects invent, mature, and apply these technologies in diverse domains with safety or security requirements. Example domains include autonomous systems, military and commercial aircraft, machine learning systems, and communication systems.

This position offers career growth potential for individuals who are innovative and can conceive, develop and execute research projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop new automated methods for creating trusted computer-based systems.
  • Work as part of a team to incorporate new methods into tools that can be applied at scale.
  • W ork with development groups to identify opportunities to improve product development practices.
  • Apply new methods to create demonstrations to foster technology understanding and adoption


Basic Qualifications:
  • This position requires a Bachelors degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident Green Card holder
  • Must be willing and able to travel 5% of the time
  • D emonstrated ability to innovate and to develop and apply new technologies
  • D emonstrated software skills, including using formal methods approaches


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree (MS, PhD) in an appropriate discipline
  • Ability to prototype software with minimal requirements for use in research customer and internal product group concept demonstrations
  • F ull product cycle development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate, market, and lead successful and useful research
