Senior TSMO Mobility Technician

Position Summary:
The Senior TSMO (Transportation Systems Management & Operations) Mobility Technician is a key technical leader responsible for the advanced installation, integration, diagnostics, and lifecycle maintenance of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and TMC field infrastructure. This role supports regional mobility by ensuring optimal performance of complex systems such as DMS, CCTV, detection sensors, communications networks (Layer 2/3), and traffic signal system interfaces. Working under the guidance of TSM&O engineering leadership and closely aligned with RTMC operations, the Senior Technician plays a critical role in enhancing real-time traffic incident response and infrastructure reliability.
Candidate must be capable in self-leadership, with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Core Responsibilities Advanced System Integration & Field Support
  • Lead the deployment and configuration of ITS devices and ensure proper integration with regional and statewide SunGuide and ATMS platforms.
  • Configure networked devices using advanced knowledge of LINUX, fiber, and IP-based communications, ensuring end-to-end connectivity with TMC systems.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of field equipment including DMS, vehicle detection systems, microwave/radar sensors, CCTV, and traffic cabinets.

Diagnostics, Maintenance & Lifecycle Management
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, root cause analysis, and remediation of system outages or equipment failures.
  • Lead scheduled preventive maintenance activities, ensuring full compliance with FDOT standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Execute firmware upgrades, network configuration changes, and system recalibrations with minimal service interruption.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

System Testing & Operational Readiness
  • Conduct system-level tests and verify interoperability between field components, controllers, and central software systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and software developers to validate functionality of new ITS applications or enhancements.
  • Maintain system logs, as-builts, and configuration backups in compliance with TSM&O procedures.

Reporting & Documentation
  • Generate detailed field reports, fault logs, and incident resolution summaries for project management and RTMC leadership review.
  • Track and document all system modifications in accordance with change management and configuration control plans.
  • Provide technical input on asset performance metrics and support data-driven decision making through dashboard feedback loops.

Safety, Compliance & Training
  • Ensure all work is executed according to FDOT safety protocols, MUTCD standards, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Mentor junior technicians, provide field training, and assist in onboarding of new personnel.
  • Support coordination with third-party vendors and local agencies during joint deployments or emergency responses.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Must hold or have the ability to pass IMSA Level I and Level II exams within 30 days of employment
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in ITS, TSM&O systems, or traffic technology environments.
  • Experience with Econolite Traffic Controllers
  • Deep understanding of ITS components, network configuration (Layer 2/3), traffic cabinet wiring, and RTMC systems.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Visual Studio, Python, SQL, C++, Power BI, and LINUX for diagnostics and system interaction.
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS), work order tracking, and preventative maintenance platforms.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and ability to respond to field locations within established SLA windows.
