Job Description
Terrafugia is a fast-paced, energetic company currently developing the Transition Street-Legal Airplane, which is often referred to as a "flying car." We are currently looking for a world-class Engineer to join our vehicle development team. Candidates should be self-starters who are willing to ask questions, like being part of a dynamic team, and bring a positive attitude, integrity, and enthusiasm to the company as we push the boundaries of personal aviation.

Required Skills and Experience:

-A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering is required.
-Advanced SolidWorks experience is required.
-7+ years technical work experience is required.
-Experience with detailed design of mechanisms, especially in the automotive, aviation, and/or aerospace industry, is required.
-Proven experience with rapid design cycles - taking a design from concept through detailed design, build and test - is required

Desired Skills and Experience:

-The ideal candidate will have a portfolio of mechanisms and/or automotive subsystems (e.g., brakes, suspension, engine cooling) that he or she has designed and taken to production.
-Design experience specific to low-volume, high-performance automobiles, including powertrain, internal flow, and various mechanical systems, is highly desirable.
-A valid US driver's license and the ability to pass a DOT commercial driver medical examination are highly desirable.
-Experience with ASTM F2245 is desirable.

Key Responsibilities and Activities:

-Participate as a key player in the design-build-test process for the Transition, including concept, preliminary and detailed design, CAD realization, design reviews, prototyping, and testing.
-Under the support and direction of the Engineering Manager and Program Manager, provide project leadership for system or subsystem development and test activities, directing a small team or working individually as appropriate. Coordinate and communicate effectively with other engineers and technical personnel.
-Lead design activities specific to automobiles, including powertrain, internal flow, and various mechanical systems.
-Apply expertise in weight-critical, high-performance design techniques for mechanical systems and composite structures, including fit, finish, function and interface management across the vehicle.
-Support and participate in testing activities - component, flight, and/or drive - as needed, including test plan creation, data analysis, and test report generation and documentation.
-Provide CAD work in support of design activities, including directing drafting and product definition staff and application of good drawing habits and industry best-practices for GD&T.
-Support the Certification Manager with compliance and certification activities and best practices, including design, test, and analysis documentation, internal and external audits, and other activities as needed.
