Job Description
Manages the design, purchase, installation, and support of network communications systems including local and wide-area networks' (LAN/WAN) hardware and software.
Qualifications
Designs networking infrastructure and interfaces to external networks; plans and evaluates existing network systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels.
Designs new or modified LANs/WANs and advises on network design.
Participates in the purchase, installation, and support of network communications including LAN/WAN systems.
May function as interface with vendors to identify and purchase hardware and software
Conducts network studies and performance analyses and recommends changes; performs cost/benefit analysis.
Performs capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks and contingency planning. Implements and maintains network management software.
Researches, analyzes, and implements software patches or
hardware changes to fix network deficiencies.
Develops technical standards and interface applications, identifies and evaluates new
products, and provides resolution for network problems.
Builds, customizes, and packages network service solutions; prepares test
data, test, debug, and document network services solutions.
At higher levels, evaluates, recommends, and selects appropriate hardware
and software for network infrastructure and performs lead role in reviewing vendor proposals and making recommendations.
Performs technical analysis of complex software, hardware, network systems, systems engineering for front-end processors, multiplexors, LAN/WAN communications, network nodes, switches, and various transmission systems.
Provides guidance/direction for engineering efforts and test and evaluation programs.
At higher levels, may provide functional guidance, advice, and/or training to less experienced
network/communications personnel.
Complies with established policies and standards to ensure that access to company information and systems resources, in any medium or format, is limited to authorized personnel.
Cooperates with internal and external information security audits.
