The Position: Shop Manager

Reports To: Fleet Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

People Management
  • Provide direction and support to team members, fostering collaboration and ensuring that everyone is working toward common objectives.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate employees; manage schedules, delegate tasks, and handle performance management.
  • Assign tasks to team members based on their skills and expertise, ensuring efficient task completion.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs), evaluate team productivity, and implement improvements as needed.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members when necessary.

Shop Management
  • Oversee daily operations of the shop, ensuring efficient maintenance, fleet support and repair assistance for the vehicles and equipment of WCH.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., operations, logistics, procurement) to ensure timely completion of projects and service requests.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering of tools, parts, and supplies as needed, maintaining accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and work orders.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure the cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the shop environment.
  • Identify operational challenges, process improvement opportunities, analyze potential solutions, and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Manage budget and cost control related to shop operations.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, serviced, and repaired as needed to avoid downtime.
  • Act as a point of contact for escalating manager concerns or operational issues.


Experience and Knowledge Expectations:
  • Minimum of 7 years of related managerial experience.
  • Journeyman Mechanic Certification is preferred.
  • Forestry-related experience is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in business, automative technology, or a related field
  • Current Class 5 Driver's license with less than 6 demerits.
  • Applicants must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook
  • Must be able to work efficiently under pressure while handling multiple, competing priorities.
  • Commitment to perform responsibilities with high professional and ethical standards.
  • Ability to provide and maintain basic mechanical tools.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbal and in writing, with the general public, customers, and fellow employees.
  • Ability to be able to travel for work as needed.
