Job Summary

Under the guidance of the R&D Manager, the Simulation Specialist in our Simulation & Modeling team will participate in the development of complex models, including power system library components and simulation tools, testing, analysis and support of a complex or specialized area. The Simulation Specialist/Engineer will collaborate with and provide assistance to others in the development team on a continuous basis.

Position Responsibilities

Technical Development:
  • Development of complex models, including power system library components and simulation tools, testing, analysis, and support of a complex or specialized area.
  • Development, evaluation, analysis and implementation of mathematical control algorithms, coded into RTDS software, to solve complex power systems, power electronics or FPGA simulation cases
  • Significant coding work using programming languages C, C++, Java, Python etc.
  • Develop and document example cases of complex power system, power electronics or FPGA simulation cases. This will require keeping up to date with the latest technologies and techniques being applied in today's modern power systems.

Field Expertise:
  • Participation in industry trade shows, international conferences, and professional working groups.
  • Writing and presenting published results in technical journals/conference proceeding.
  • Lead installation and commissioning of RTDS simulators at customer sites and provide instruction on its operation.

Support Function:
  • Provide simulation support to RTDS customers (by email and/or telephone) within area of expertise.
  • Test new RTDS software functions and features, with particular emphasis on power system and power electronics models, as they are developed and implemented.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.


Qualifications
  • Minimum Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, experiences with EMT modelling or Ph.D. degree preferred.
  • Deep understanding of electrical power system or power electronics theory.
  • Minimum 5-10 years' experience in power systems/power electronics (Graduated study or post-doctoral research experience in EMT simulation related area included).
  • Experience in EMT development, strong publication record in EMT modelling and simulation & experience in leading the development of large power system analysis software is considered an asset.
  • Deep experience with transmission line theory or FPGA simulation and development is strongly preferred. Higher qualification with immediate opportunity for advancement.
  • Experience with programs such as PSCAD, RSCAD, MATLAB, PSS/E preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient and have experience in C or C++ programming languages.
  • Ability to travel (up to 20% of work time).
