This position is a hybrid co-located position with primary responsibility for 5 of the PD VEV laboratories. (Allen Park, MI)

Product Development, Vehicle Evaluation and Verification (PD-VEV) is tasked with testing and certifying components and vehicles.
This position supervises a team of analysts located at the emissions, engine, transmission, fuel systems and battery labs. It supports the IT equipment in the test cells. It has a direct impact on vehicle quality and improvements.
You will work directly with PD engineers to determine the best solutions and improvements. From Win 11 upgrades to full implementation of all new emissions testing with MPN endpoints and GCP central functions, you will impact a wide breadth of technologies and projects.
While working directly with product and components, it is not production. As such, it is usually supported during normal working hours. This is a vibrant, diverse and challenging position with direct product impact.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Evaluation and Verification test lab support:
    • Work directly with the PD section supervisors in each laboratory, on programs/projects that support VEV/IT initiatives.
    • Manage customer relationships of Vehicle Evaluation and Verification (VEV) projects, when working with project teams
    • Support VEV daily operations at multiple test lab facilities.
    • Coordinating any cross-lab development work to meet the Test Systems Strategy of common platforms, and re-usable systems.
    • Manage Vendor relationships.
    • Provide guidance on technical architecture of complete solutions, including client test cell systems integrated into data transport and data management solutions.
    • Provide guidance for data analysis solutions to support Product Development engineering requirements.
    • Provide support for test applications, interfaces, data loaders, etc.
      • Mix of in-house, COTS, SAS
    • Supervise co-located teams at labs
      • Mix of Ford, Agency and service personnel (4F, 4A, 6S)
  • Test Systems practice architect.
    • Lead architect for Site Management/Test Systems projects, providing a cross-lab view of solutions
    • Develop infrastructure requirements for Test Systems projects from client to database solutions.
    • Provide architecture direction and solutions for Test Systems
      • Guide team architects on data management solutions for Test Systems
      • Guide project leads on specific solutions that fit into the Test Systems Strategy.
      • Guide VEV engineering teams with IT components for Data Acquisition and control projects, such as PCrenewal for clients, and data center server base.
    • Work with ITO research and development teams on future technologies that can be leveraged into Test Systems. Examples:
      • Wireless Sensors
      • Mobility tools
      • Artificial Intelligence
  • Scope - Test labs supported:
    • Allen Park Test Lab (emissions)
    • Dynamometer Building (engines)
    • Powertrain Fuel Systems Lab
    • Auto Transmission New Product Center
    • Vehicle Perform & Electrification Center (battery)


Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years experience in general IT infrastructure and solutions development
  • Minimum B.S. in CS or related field
  • Strong understanding of IT architecture, including client, web services, application, and database technology.
  • Strong vendor relationship skills
  • Strong negotiation/teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) skills
  • Must be a proven self-starter w/ability to direct and manage resources at all levels not under direct organizational control

This position is a leadership level 6 - salary grades LL6 .
