About Harlem Entrepreneurial Fund

Harlem Entrepreneurial Fund (HEF); a division of Harlem Commonwealth Council (HCC) is a mission-driven certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) specializing in micro-financing for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) while facilitating job creation in New York City. Created in 2008, HEF has been actively lending to small businesses for 10 years and is poised for growth to expand lending and technical assistance to small businesses. The organization is seeking a Small Business Loan Officer (SBLO) to help with the administration of the loan program.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Managing Director of Lending, the SBLO will contribute to HEF's mission and vision by creating a strong portfolio of small business borrowers in Harlem, Upper Manhattan, and the Bronx. The SBLO will be responsible for marketing HEF's products and services to potential borrowers, assisting them with the application process, underwriting and closing loans, and providing one-on-one technical assistance as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development

  • Identify new potential borrowers through prospecting, cold calling, networking, generating leads and referrals with a goal of increasing loan production to meet or exceed established production targets.


Loan Origination
  • Determine initial eligibility of applicants, including evaluation of creditworthiness, fit with mission, geographic service area, use of funds and business viability, collateral availability and provide assistance on applications. Conduct loan intakes and site visits.
  • Assist potential borrowers with loan packaging.


Underwriting
  • Perform due diligence and loan underwriting, prepare credit memos for committee review
  • Analyze and monitor performance of loan portfolio to ensure regulatory compliance


Technical Assistance
  • Perform one-on-one technical assistance with borrowers pre-and post-loan closing
  • Provide post borrowing support including regular meetings with borrowers, review of quarterly financial statements and annual tax returns and other assistance as appropriate to help ensure the success of the business and repayment of loans.


Administration
  • Maintain CRM system to manage application intake and for loan origination and pipeline management
  • Perform portfolio management and loan administration tasks as needed


Qualifications, Education & Skills:
  • BA or BS in business administration, finance, community development, marketing or similar
  • Experience working in business development, lending, banking, economic development or related field, or in a small business environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Efficient time management and administrative skills; ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


The position requires work outside of regular office hours and in off-site locations.

The Salary Range for the position is: $85 - $105K
