Pratt Institute's Communications and Marketing (PComm) division, a dynamic and collaborative team of content creators, is seeking a Social Media Manager to lead the planning, production, and execution of content across all of the institutional social media channels, driving Pratt's social media strategy. The division builds Pratt's brand and reputation through compelling stories, imagery, and branded materials that elevate the institution's visibility.

Reporting to the Associate Director of External Communications and Media Relations, the Social Media Manager will be responsible for strategically curating, producing, and distributing content across social media platforms, ensuring alignment with Pratt's institutional messaging, goals, and brand identity. The role requires a collaborative, forward-thinking professional who understands content strategy, audience engagement, and platform best practices, and who can seamlessly integrate social media with Pratt's broader communications ecosystem, including the website, publications, and video production efforts.

The ideal candidate will bring strong storytelling skills, a deep understanding of digital trends, and a proactive approach to social media management. They will serve as a key collaborator with Creative Services (CS), the Digital team, and the PR/Editorial Communications and Prattfolio teams to develop and implement strategies that leverage institutional content effectively.

This role will closely coordinate with the Admissions team to align social media efforts with recruitment goals, ensuring content resonates with prospective students in a compelling and authentic way. As a key member of PComm's Social Listening group, this role will monitor campus and public sentiment on social platforms, providing insights to senior leadership and contributing to social media reporting efforts.

Examples of Duties

  • Develop, execute, and manage the Institute's social media strategy across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube ensuring alignment with institutional messaging, goals, and reputation.
  • Oversee social media content strategy, production, and scheduling, identifying opportunities for exclusive content in collaboration with PComm colleagues, especially the Photo/Video team, Admissions, and cross-campus colleagues as needed.
  • Be a presence on campus to capture high-quality photos, videos, and stories that showcase events, student life, and campus vibrancy.
  • Create and edit engaging multimedia content, including short-form videos, graphics, and copy tailored to various audiences and platforms.
  • Write dynamic captions and social media posts that reflect the Institute's brand voice and mission while driving engagement.
  • Collaborate across departments to strategize and develop social media content, advising on best practices, and cross-promotional opportunities with external partners.
  • Plan and implement social media event coverage for marquee events such as Pratt Shows, Legends Gala, Commencement, Orientation, and high-profile public programming. In-person coverage is expected. Evening/weekend availability required.
  • Use social listening to assess trends, campus climate, and national events that may impact engagement, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
    Support crisis communications efforts, advising on social media strategy and engagement during critical situations.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics to inform strategy, increase engagement, and report on impact.
  • Stay current with industry, higher education, and arts and culture trends to keep content fresh and advise as needed.
  • Manage student employees involved in social media content creation and community engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Digital Media, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in social media content creation and digital content production (higher education or cultural institution experience preferred but not required).
Skills:
  • Proven track record of successful social media content creation, campaign development, and audience engagement.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to craft compelling, on-brand messages for diverse audiences across platforms.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools for content creation.
  • Skilled in short-form video production (TikTok, Reels) and storytelling, with photography and videography experience as a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices, including the ability to identify new opportunities for engagement.
  • High-energy, self-starter with a passion for storytelling who can take an assignment and run with it.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across the Institute and with external audiences.
  • Ability to pivot and balance shifting priorities while providing solution-driven, positive thinking in a team environment.
  • Experience implementing brand guidelines in both visual and written content.
  • Ability to serve as an articulate spokesperson, when needed, representing the Institute on digital platforms.

Supplemental Information

This position is located in New York and requires employees to work on-site at least two days per week.
