The expected salary range upon hire for this role is $74,507- $104,182.

What You'll Be Doing
This recruitment is for a Social Worker II positions within the Department of Health and Human Services, Adult Protective Services and Care Management Section, Aging & Disability Services. This position is Full Time. Social Worker II employees in the Adult Protective Services and Care Management Section provide a wide variety of services to a culturally and linguistically diverse population of older adults and adults with disabilities with the aim to screen, assess, investigate, and provide ongoing case management and service delivery in order to prevent and reduce the risk of adult maltreatment and institutionalization.
Adult Protective Services (APS): This Program serves persons aged 18 and over who lack the physical or mental capacity to provide for their daily needs. The purpose of the program is to prevent or remedy the abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation of adults who are unable to protect their own interests and are at risk of immediate harm to their own person or to others. The Program provides professional services to protect the health, safety, and welfare of endangered, vulnerable adults.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Social Worker II employees provide direct professional assistance or care to clients. This work will involve screening, assessing, investigating, and providing case management services for APS and Case Management Section programs; maintain accurate files; prepare reports and service agreements; testify in court; collaborate with multiple service providers; liaison with professional and community resources such as hospitals, law enforcement, nursing homes, public safety programs, schools, medical professionals, and other providers.
The Social Worker II independently plans and performs the successive steps required to accomplish the work in accordance with guidelines. Typically, unusual and non-standard matters lacking clear precedent are referred to the supervisor or a senior worker for guidance; the Social Worker II provides a recommendation. Regularly scheduled progress reviews are the norm; the work is expected to be professionally effective. Work is subject to review for quality, quantity, timeliness, teamwork, customer service and other factors. This work may involve occasional exposure to some risk of aggressive or unpredictable behavior by clients.
These positions require the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office. Employees will need to operate a motor vehicle to transport clients, supplies, and equipment as appropriate.

If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, he/she will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills. For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from Spanish to English and vice versa.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
Experience: One (1) year of professional experience rendering social work services.
Equivalency: See Maryland Board requirements.
LICENSE:
Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker - LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.

Leave Benefits

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year. Positions in MLS earn 35 days of paid time off each year. In addition, we offer all employees 10 paid holidays. Retirement Benefits

All permanent and term positions are eligible for robust retirement plans. Public safety positions are eligible for a defined benefit pension plan in which they are vested after only five years. Employees in non-public safety positions can participate in retirement plans that contribute up to 12 percent of their annual salary. All employees can also participate in a supplemental retirement plan, the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, to contribute even more to their retirement goals.
