Job Description

Purpose of Position:
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgement and decision making, in addition to performing the duties of Social Workers levels 3 and 4, may performs the following tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides clinical and administrative supervision of the Social Work staff levels 2-4, Addiction Counselors, Peers Counselors, Peer Interns, Social Work Interns and any other technical staff assigned to the unit.
Maintain a reduced caseload of patients to afford completion of supervisory and administrative work.
Orients new staff and apprise incumbent staff of changes In policy, procedure, or standards related to the department and various in-house services. Reviews and approves all treatment plans.
Ensures adequate coverage and continuity of patient care at all times.
Ensures staff documents all interventions and continuing care plans in the patient's medical record in accordance with department, hospital and regulatory agencies guidelines/policies.
Coordinates staff activities to meet the needs of the department.
Participates in the formulation of standards, polices, and procedures for orientation, supervision and in-service training of Social Work and Addiction Services staff and other staff as directed.
Monitors staff activities to ensure compliance with all of the above. ,
Assist/prepares staff when coordinating interdisciplinary case conferences.
Prepares Performance Evaluations for Social Work and Addiction Services staff.
Acts as liaison within the community to ensure linkages and availability of community resources.
Participates in the department's performance improvement meetings and projects.
Conducts chart monitoring as a member of the department performance Improvement activities.
Maintains and completes statistics and reports. Review charge captures and co-signs notes of applicable unit staff in a timely manner for billing.
Participates in clinical/administrative supervision with the departments' administrator/leadership.
Conducts and/or attends individual, unit, departmental and intra/Inter hospital meetings as mandated by the department's leadership.
Initiate and /or be part of the informal and formal counseling/disciplinary process for staff,
Participates in the department cross training program.
Documents all patient care interventions in the EMR on the same day of the encounter.
Comply with OASAS and JCAHO standards
Assists/participates in presentation, trainings and In-services as required
Performs other Social Work functions as assigned by the Psychiatry /Addiction Services/hospital leadership.

Department Preferences

Knowledge & Skills:
Able to utilize interpretation tools or services available to communicate with non-English speaking/nonverbal patients and families.
Demonstrate experience in the management of patients with substance use, mental health diagnosis/problems.
Able to document effectively all interventions and formation of care plans in the patient's medical record in a clear and concise manner.
Able to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks
Able to understand the impact of any illness on psychosocial functioning
Knowledge of bereavement counseling and services
Knowledge of Social Work techniques in working with individuals, groups and families
Knowledge of hospital and community resources
Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicaid, HMOs and discharge planning regulations.
Knowledge of substance use, behaviors, Interventions and resources.
Knowledge of Child Abuse and Neglect and how to report such assessments.
Knowledge of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault/Rape, Elder Abuse, Human Trafficking Interventions and reporting,
Knowledge of Elisa's Law
Knowledge of Kendra's Law
Knowledge of JCAHO Standards of Care
Knowledge of Mental Hygiene Law and Regulations
Knowledge of DOMHM guidelines

Responsibilities
1. Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED, and two (2) years of supervisory experience, as described above.
