Amazon Photos helps consumers preserve and re-live their memories. The service comes with unlimited photo storage for Prime members and apps are available on iOS, Android, Web, Desktop, Fire Tablet & Fire TV. We are also integrated into Alexa devices such as Echo Show and Echo Spot.

Amazon Photos is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the Core Metadata and Content Services (CoMetS) team! We are a foundational backend infrastructure team that is responsible for Amazon Photos customers' content store, core metadata store, its lifecycle, syncing, encryption, CRUD operations, album management, sharing, etc. Our work also affects multiple other Alexa Devices initiatives where our platform powers artifact storage/retrieval for crucial customer experiences.

Security is one of our core tenet. The content and metadata we operate on is critical in nature since it is customer's personal data. We adopt best security standards to safe-guard this data. These includes using correct encryption techniques, refining permission and access controls etc. Our team also own the authentication layer on all of our front end APIs.

Our sheer scale and responsibility brings us a lot of challenging problems which we love to solve! We are currently working on re-architecting our services to meet scale up needs for next 10 years, updating from monolithic services into microservices using serverless technologies (ECS Fargate/AWS Lambda).

Key job responsibilities

* You will work on a backend team building new experiences and features for the Photos product.

* You will develop photos foundational infrastructure vision using the latest technologies and design them to operate efficiently at a high scale.

* Your solutions will help resolve product and architectural deficiencies.

* You will work closely with business, product, and technical stakeholders, investigate design approaches, evaluate technical feasibility, and drive measurable success.

* You will work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software with a limited guidance.

* You will contribute to improving engineering, test, and operational excellence best practices on your team. You'll help define standards and implement them as well.

A day in the life

As a member of the Amazon Photos Core Content and Metadata Services team, you will work with other extraordinary engineers to re-imagine the Amazon Photos platform. Your architecture will help take Amazon Photos to exabyte scale, and beyond. You will ensure the best engineering practices are followed and that our software is designed to be responsive, reliable and maintainable. You will be a role model and mentor for other engineers on the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
