Description:

The AWS EC2 Control Plane team is in search of a manager to lead a team that owns EC2 critical software services. This team manages (1) the Amazon Time Sync service, a sophisticated platform that delivers precise timing to EC2 instances, network infrastructure, Amazon Fulfillment Centers, and retail locations, (2) AMIs/Images APIs which provide the information required to launch every EC2 instance, (3) a platform to reduce circular dependencies ensuring services recover during a large-scale event, and (4) routing services for core parts of the EC2 network such as DNS and proxies.

Key job responsibilities

* Direct management of the software engineering team, including supporting and growing the team, and recruiting/hiring new team members.

* Translation of complex functional and technical requirements into detailed plans and schedules; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent, progressive development strategy.

* Lead the evolution of the software engineering practices within the organization (metrics, development methodology, innovation).

* Understand and set a high bar for all parts of the DevOps lifecycle, including design, automation, documentation, monitoring, and testing.

* Be an advocate and drive optimization across the organization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
