Job Overview:

Lexia Learning, a Cambium Learning Group company and industry leader in online reading technologies is looking to bring on an experienced Software Engineering Manager to run a team within our growing application development group.

As a hands-on Software Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in building applications on our cloud-hosted Education Technology platform. You will drive a small team of Software Engineers focused on the development and maintenance of rich web-based applications. You will be fully engaged in the development process, including writing code, designing systems, taking part in code reviews, and troubleshooting issues.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Guide developers on an agile team in building full-stack applications using PHP, mySQL, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Collaborate with product, architecture, QA and agile team members in ensuring successful delivery of product features.
  • Assist with the technical product management of the platform, including writing requirements, planning objectives, and creating acceptance criteria.
  • Hold yourself and the team to a high standard of quality and work with the broader team to ensure that the products meet those standards.
  • Be an advocate for continuous improvement through the execution of technical initiatives, including refactoring and reduction of technical debt.
  • Support hiring and mentoring of engineers on the team. Provide career development support to developers.

Job Requirements:
  • Eight or more years of software engineering experience, including two or more years managing at least one direct report.
  • Experience leading technical projects or teams.
  • Knowledge and experience building web applications with PHP or another object oriented backend language.
  • Experience designing, creating, and testing REST web services and APIs.
  • Experience with version control (Git), containerization (Docker/Vagrant), automation (Bamboo or Jenkins), and shell scripting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Applicants will be asked to provide a technical writing sample.
  • Ability to work in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience working with PHP and the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
  • Experience with frontend development, including but not limited to Javascript, Typescript, Webpack, and node.js.
  • Experience with at least one major Javascript framework, including Angular, React, or Vue.
  • Exceptional relational database skills using technologies like MySQL or SQL Server.
  • Bachelor's degree or better in a technical discipline.
