Description:
Do you have experience in solid waste management and the passion to change public behaviour with respect to waste disposal? If so, we want you on our Engineering Services team!
As the successful candidate you will support efforts to change public behaviour with respect to waste disposal as well as support other solid waste management services for the purpose of encouraging overall waste reduction and solid waste management in the region.
You will:
Facilitate waste reduction programs and initiatives in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Plan:
Increase compliance with existing waste programs
Responds to telephone, personal and written requests from the public and elected officials for information on waste management, waste reduction and other related issues, policies and programs.
Other related duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you will have a diploma in environmental sciences, engineering communications, or a related field. You will also have a minimum of 3 years of related experience and a valid BC drivers license. Strong organization, prioritization, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills are essential for this position.
This is a CUPE 338 position that works Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, however hours may be adjusted to meet business operations. This position may also be requested to work occasional weekends and pays a rate of $39.35 per hour.

You will:
- Organize, plan, and participate in community events.
- Coordinate contractors and volunteers and communicate with residents, community groups, schools, and businesses to organize and facilitate community-based programs.
- Conduct research and provide recommendations that support and improve various waste reduction programs and initiatives.
- Prepare, update and maintain records, spreadsheets, and other documents and perform data analysis.
- Prepares annual reports, briefs, plans and background documentation.
- In collaboration with communications, create and implement public information campaigns and activities.
- Coordinate and provide waste reduction education for residents, community groups, schools, and businesses.
