Essential Job Functions:
- Perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
- Perform high-level disinfection according to department policy.
- Take call according to department call schedule after the close of regular scheduled hours.
- Responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures and quality controls.
- Organize daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties as required.
- Coordinate work schedule with departmental manager and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
- Complete all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with the nurses' station and ER.
- Report equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment, work area, and maintain adequate supplies.
- Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify and adapt procedures as appropriate.
- Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians when required.
- Analyze sonograms and medical history and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
- Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
- Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
- Assume responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical well-being of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
- Participate in training and education as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.
- Assist in other radiology modalities as needed
- Associates of Applied Science degree in Diagnostics Medical Sonography or equivalent hospital training.
- Two years of experience under a Board Certified Radiologist.
Certification/Licensure:
- Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostics Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty or specialties area.
- Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty or specialties as appropriate.
- Current BLS certification.
