MIGA is headed by the Executive Vice President (EVP). Members of the Office of the EVP (Front Office, MIGEX or FO) also include the Chief of Staff, one Adviser, one Special Assistant, one Senior External Affairs Officer, one Program Manager (for HR strategy) and a Senior Executive Assistant. Collectively, the Front Office team supports the EVP in carrying out the executive function. FO responsibilities include managing relationships within MIGA and the WB GP and coordinating with the offices of the WBG senior management team, donors, shareholders, and clients; developing and overseeing strategic direction and communication; developing travel schedules; and supporting HR functions. The FO supports the EVP in preparing for Board meetings and internal committee meetings, including processing internal documentation requiring approval or signature.
At this time, the FO is seeking a Special Assistant. If the successful candidate is selected from within MIGA, the candidate is expected to rotate back to their original department at the conclusion of the Front Office assignment.
Duties and accountabilities:
The Special Assistant will, under the supervision of the Chief of Staff and in close collaboration with the EVP's Adviser, assist MIGA's EVP in the execution of the Agency's priorities and goals. Specifically, the selected candidate will, in close collaboration with other FO staff as appropriate:
Coordinate inputs, prepare documents and conduct analysis on various engagements (e.g., MIGA projects) in order to advise the EVP and Chief of Staff of key areas that warrant their attention;
Assist in the preparation of various briefings, correspondence (including the EVP newsletter), talking points, speeches and any other material prepared for the EVP and Chief of Staff;
Organize and manage special events (e.g., Annual Meetings and Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group) or visits of high-profile guests, including clients;
Working closely with the appropriate MIGA departments, plan, organize and coordinate the EVP's visits outside of Washington, D.C. (including assembling briefing materials);
As appropriate, travel and attend meetings with the EVP and Chief of Staff;
As needed, monitor and ensure appropriate implementation of actions, decisions and commitments made by the EVP by working with the parties responsible for implementation; and
Build and cultivate relationships with MIGA management and staff and help flag any issues that may need the EVP's and Chief of Staff's attention.
Handle other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the EVP, the Chief of Staff or the EVP's Adviser.
Selection Criteria
Must have a Master's degree (e.g., MBA, MML) and sustained record of achieving high-quality substantive results over an extended period (at least 5 years of experience) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good knowledge of MIGA, its strategy and products.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide substantive support on a wide range of issues. Demonstrated ability on operational/underwriting matters a plus.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, and ability to synthesize complex issues and substantial documentation into effective oral and written briefs.
Superb organization and problem-solving skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize under tight deadlines.
Flexibility to address a wide range of issues and situations, often at short notice.
High degree of discretion, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external clients, staff, and managers, and in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in teams, and with management and staff at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Willingness to work long hours and to travel.
