What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

A DFU (Defective, Faulty, or Unserviceable) Content Reclamation Specialist in an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Manufacturing Plant is responsible for identifying, reclaiming, and managing defective or faulty components to reduce waste and maximize cost efficiency. Their primary focus is on salvaging reusable materials from defective products and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Defective Material Assessment & Reclamation
    • Identify and assess defective, faulty, or unserviceable (DFU) components from manufacturing lines.
    • Determine whether parts can be refurbished, repaired, or recycled to minimize material waste.
    • Work closely with quality and engineering teams to define reclamation criteria.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Reporting
    • Investigate the causes of defective parts and suggest corrective actions.
    • Maintain detailed reports on defect trends, scrap rates, and reclamation success.
    • Provide feedback to production and design teams for continuous improvement.
  • Inventory & Material Management
    • Organize and track DFU materials in the inventory system.
    • Coordinate with supply chain and logistics teams to return salvageable parts to stock or suppliers.
    • Ensure proper documentation and labeling of reclaimed and scrapped materials.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance
    • Adhere to industry regulations, safety protocols, and company quality standards.
    • Ensure that reclaimed materials meet the required specifications before reintegration.
    • Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies for compliance checks.
  • Cost Optimization & Waste Reduction
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities through reclamation efforts.
    • Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
    • Work with procurement and suppliers to enhance the reclaimability of materials.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with production, quality control, engineering, and supply chain teams.
    • Provide training and awareness programs on DFU management for plant employees.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to defect prevention and reclamation.

Location & Travel Expectations:
  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina.
  • The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

Work Experience (3-5 Years)
  • Hands-on experience in automotive manufacturing, quality control, or materials handling.
  • Exposure to defect identification, repair processes, and quality assurance.
  • Basic knowledge of automotive components, materials, and reclamation processes.
  • Experience in defect analysis, component salvage, and material reclamation.
  • Knowledge of automotive industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001).
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) for inventory and defect tracking.
  • Understanding of failure analysis techniques (e.g., FMEA, RCA, 8D Problem Solving).

Technical & Professional Skills

Automotive Manufacturing & Quality Knowledge
  • Understanding of vehicle components, including powertrain, electrical, chassis, and body parts.
  • Experience with OEM defect analysis tools, such as DFMEA, PFMEA, and Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt preferred).
  • Knowledge of repair, rework, and remanufacturing processes for automotive components.
  • Familiarity with OEM supplier quality standards and return processes for defective parts.

Inventory & ERP System Proficiency
  • Hands-on experience with ERP & MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Ability to track DFU materials, manage inventory levels, and coordinate returns or refurbishments.

Process Improvement & Cost Optimization
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S methodologies to improve defect recovery efficiency.
  • Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities through component reclamation and defect reduction.

Soft Skills
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking - Ability to analyze defect trends and optimize reclamation processes.
  • Collaboration & Communication - Work effectively with production, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams.
  • Attention to Detail - Ensuring reclaimed parts meet strict quality and safety standards before reintegration.

Additional Certifications (Preferred but Not Mandatory)
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt (for defect analysis and process improvement)
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) - ASQ certification for quality control expertise
  • Lean Manufacturing Certification (from SME or other recognized bodies)
  • IATF 16949 Internal Auditor Certification (for compliance in automotive manufacturing)

Key Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and defect analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials science, repair methodologies, and reclamation techniques.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems for inventory tracking (WMS, EWMS, SAP, Oracle).
  • Analytical skills for root cause analysis and process optimization.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate technical findings effectively.
  • Familiarity with environmental and regulatory compliance related to material disposal and recycling.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $90,000.00 - $110,000.00
