General Description
Coordinates and leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior management supports for individual special education students and classwide interventions. The role involves directing the comprehensive behavior support programs and analyzing behavior data to drive effective interventions. The position entails conducting functional behavioral assessments, developing tailored behavior intervention plans, and providing ongoing to school teams in these efforts. The incumbent will oversee critical response technicians, delivering training, case-specific support, and coaching based on evidence-based practices aimed at minimizing maladaptive behaviors and teaching replacement behaviors. Complex work is performed within regulations, departmental objectives, and policies, impacting multiple departments. This position requires active collaboration and communication with Muti-Tiered Systems of Support staff, related service providers, school administration and Department of Special Education staff.

Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the content, concepts, principles, and methodologies of specified instructional areas in a public school setting; of current curriculum development and Virginia Standards of Learning, program implementation of specified instructional area, learning theory, recent research, school organization, supervision, and available state and local resources. Demonstrated skills in a wide variety of media and in technology to support job functions (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Google Suites preferred.) Demonstrated ability to secure, monitor, and evaluate appropriate specific instructional area programs; to coordinate complex programs and activities; to organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments; to train and advise staff; to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management and research and planning. Demonstrated successful experience providing professional training and presentations for individuals, small groups and large audiences.
Requirements
Must hold a valid Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in Special Education. Endorsements in Administration and Supervision are preferred. Five years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities. Prior experience coaching or developing curriculum at the district level, or demonstrated progressive responsibility is preferred. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to drive. Must be able to become certified in the division's de-escalation and restraint program.

Essential Job Functions
- Implements crisis intervention strategies by applying a progressively graduated system of verbal and non-verbal strategies to effectively deescalate potentially dangerous situations using behavioral principles and strategies.
- Utilizes diverse methods of data collection to drive behavior interventions. Analyzes and interprets behavior data, including frequency, duration, and event-based recordings.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates comprehensive behavior support programs, providing leadership and direction to ensure effectiveness.
- Collaborates with school staff to instruct and reinforce behaviors that reduce maladaptive (physical and verbal) actions and enhance academic performance.
- Performs detailed functional behavioral assessments and uses results to develop effective behavior intervention plans.
- Supports school teams in the development of behavior plans and specific intervention plans for students.
- Manages multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
- Works with individual teachers, groups of teachers, or the entire staff on crisis intervention, learning, collaboration, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
- Collects and analyzes data on student behaviors to recommend instructional modifications that foster responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students.
- Provides professional development training for administrators, teachers, and staff on behavior intervention, anger management, and other relevant topics.
- Participates in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior.
- Assists families and school staff in accessing community resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
