As a Specialty Pharmacist, you will be responsible for clinical review and prescription management for customers with Hepatitis C, Autoimmune disorders, Cystic Fibrosis, Multiple Sclerosis, and other complex disease states serviced at the pharmacy location.

What is the work?
Advising / Customer Service:
- Serves as a customer resource; facilitates coordination of customer care; prevents potential adverse reactions / interactions related to dispensed drugs
- Builds and maintains customer relations to provide excellent customer service and a caring environment for our patients
- Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with prescribers / medical office staff
- Interacts with health care professionals; may serve as a resource / consultant to physicians
- Provides in-depth counseling on medications provided for each disease state
- Provides patient counseling (new starts) on all new prescription orders
- Assists patients with the enrollment process for manufacture and non-profit organization co-pay assistance programs
- Completes a follow-up with each patient 7-10 days after the first order is dispensed and delivered
- Counsels patients on all prescription orders when an adherence issue has been identified
- Assesses each refill to determine safety, efficacy, and appropriateness of treatment
Operations:
- Verifies all work of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Interns
- Verifies accuracy of all delivery details before orders are sent to Central Fill
- Performs drug utilization review with each new order; documents the action in RxEVO
- Utilizes Pharmacy systems (RxEVO, Asembia1) to maintain appropriate documentation of the care delivered
- Provides overrides and other assistance to the H-E-B RxTRA Advantage team
- Assists in creating, maintaining, and updating the clinical programs with Asembia1
- Creates help desk tickets with Asembia1
- Submits third-party sales; assists in correction of third-party rejections
- Supports / communicates with Accounting and Third-Party teams
- Verifies 'Return to Stock' is performed once a week
- Works closely with Central Fill team to ensure all orders are filled properly
- Communicates with Supply Chain when necessary
- Maintains quality assurance / accuracy of product
- Writes and submits clinical prior authorization appeals
- Initiates and completes clinical prior authorization requests per treatment protocols, clinical criteria, and member benefits
- Contacts physicians regarding questions / problems with prescriptions; verifies / documents accuracy with the physician
- Performs prescription accuracy check and approval on processed prescriptions; ensures the correct drug is with the correct patient, directions, and in the correct dosage / package for each prescription
- Maintains workflow / quality control methods; knows how to perform all the functions within the Pharmacy
- Performs functions related to managing and operating a pharmacy in a closed-door retail environment
- Ensures environment is clean and safe for Partners and patients
Coaching:
- Assists in new Partner training and Partner readiness / competency
- Assists Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Interns with prescription questions
- Supports all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and new initiatives (Central Fill, Generic Optimization, RxEVO etc.)
- Assists in managing production efficiency through use of labor scheduling; assists with staff scheduling
Compliance:
- Ensures the department abides by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) and federal (DEA) regulations
- Ensures privacy and confidentiality of Personal Health Information (PHI) as required by HIPAA
- Stays knowledgeable of current clinical guidelines, industry practice standards, and accreditation standards
- Ensures the efficacy and safety of medicines by adhering to the cold chain management protocol
- Ensures third-party claims are compliant with contractual obligations and legal / regulatory requirements to prevent chargebacks
What is your background?
- Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (required)
- Active Pharmacist license with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (required)
- 3+ years of Specialty Pharmacy experience
- Completion of / ability to complete required training within 30 days of hire (e.g., company Total Store Orientation, H-E-B 80-hour orientation under supervision of Pharmacy Dedicated Trainer / Pharmacy Manager, RxEVO 501 & 502, HIPAA, AsembiaOne & ASPEN, clinical disease state training within 90 days of hire)
