JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Speech Language Pathologist Lead Clinician will facilitate student access and progress toward mastery of the general education curriculum. Provide services to support the instructional program at a variety of schools within the District.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as mentor to speech-language pathologists with fewer than three (3) years of service to BCS students.
Coordinate acquisition and maintenance of diagnostic and intervention materials; facilitates management of records of speech-language impaired services of students.
Provide speech-language evaluation and intervention to eligible students.
Maintain and submits records and reports in timely manner.
Facilitate collection of records and reports from assigned groups of speech-language pathologists.
Provide SLI evaluation, intervention during summer school and Extended School Year (ESY) schedules.
Participate in centralized eligibility teams as needed.
Provide orientation and mentoring to clinicians new to Birmingham City Schools.
Mentor small groups of clinicians by conducting and participating in staff development opportunities for speech-language pathologists
Assist with maintaining a current inventory of assessment and intervention for use by SLP's
Engage in professional growth & demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
Evaluate students to determine eligibility for services under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the services and education of children with disabilities as well as other regulated programs.
Knowledge of pediatric and adolescent development (cognitive and physical) and of medical and psychological diagnostic instruments as they relate to assessing the needs of children with disabilities.
Knowledge of terms used to describe physical and learning disabilities.
Demonstrate skills in problem solving and effective human relations.
Ability to compile and analyze data, interpret the laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to the work.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Effective oral and written communication.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Professional Educator Certification.
Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders from a regionally accredited college/university.
Minimum ten (10) years of successful teaching experience in special education or related services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
ASHA Certification and ABSESPA Licensure.
