Deseret Farms of California is seeking an analytical and service-oriented Senior Accountant to join our local finance team. The Senior Accountant provides day-to-day accounting and financial support to the assigned operations. This job is a key contributor in helping maintain good internal controls and audit documentation to protect the company and its assets.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise Accounting Staff and manage their professional development.
- Maintain complete and accurate accounting records.
- Prepare journal entries and conduct reconciliations of the inventory, balance sheet accounts, as needed and for company mandated deadlines.
- Prepare and provide general ledger reporting and analysis to ensure accounts are properly stated.
- Ensure that accounting records are accurate and complete with ledgers closed in a timely manner.
- Create, analyze, and present monthly financial and operational reports to the Controller and local management.
- Actively participate with management in preparation of annual budgets.
- Advise managers in financial matters where appropriate.
- Assist with process improvement and project development oversight.
- Monitor payables, budget variances, and important trends.
- Ensure internal controls exist to adequately mitigate risk inherent in key processes (AP, AR, etc).
- Prepare adjustments for disposals and donations of inventory.
- Monitor inventory levels in storage, accounting for shrink, cull disposal, and shipment.
- Assist operations in regular inventory physical counts and reconcile harvested inventory.
- Provide direct assistance and support in the annual financial statement audit and income tax filings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related degree required.
- Master's degree in related field and/or CPA, CMA or potential candidate preferred.
- 2+ years experience in accounting; audit experience desired.
- Solid leadership skills with previous supervisory experience and ability to influence without authority.
- High competency with accounting software, spreadsheets, databases, data extraction, and Microsoft tools. Previous (Lawson) Infor and M3 use helpful.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Excellent demonstrated interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills a plus.
- Knowledge of ag/farming/food production industry helpful.
- This is not a remote or hybrid position. Eligible candidates must be willing and able to work on-site at the Chico, CA office Monday-Friday during standard office hours.
- Position may require occasional travel to other farm and regional offices, approximately 15%.
