Basic Function
Underwrite Commercial Risk submissions for acceptance into our book of business. Submissions can be new business CPP, BOP, Workers Compensation, or Umbrella business. Submissions can also include Renewals, Policy Changes and Audits for existing business. Underwriting includes following written guidelines, reviewing inspections, premium audits, internet searches, and accepting or rejecting business following our Commercial Underwriting Guidelines.
Principal Accountabilities
Accountabilities should reflect job functions requiring at least 5% of an incumbent's time commitment.
Essential Functions:

1. Respond to and resolve customer service requests according to FBL Financial Group, Inc., policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner for external customers, departmental staff, and other FBL personnel at all times.
2. Accept, modify, or reject new application submissions as well as policy changes, review premium audits, and prepare policy renewals.
3. Assist agents in preparing presentations and quotes for prospects or client members.
4. Assist in developing and modifying existing guidelines to ensure they are producing desired results.
5. Assist in making presentations and recommendations for updating procedure guidelines and new markets.
6. Be available to support agents in the field with education for agents and client/members and presentations when needed for information gathering and closing presentations.
7. Attendance required at all company or departmental meetings.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Know-How
1. College degree or equivalent required plus at least seven years relevant work experience required.
2. Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills are required.
3. Computer/keyboard skills as appropriate to this position.
4. Knowledge of all Farm Bureau inquiry systems, automated rating systems, underwriting manuals, valuation software for buildings and vehicles, and industry specific websites to support underwriting activities.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.
6. A valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required due to travel.
7. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
8. Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.

Nature & Scope
The Commercial Underwriting department is responsible for classifying, selecting and servicing commercial policy risks that support our goals of growth and profitability according to FBL policy and procedures. This department supports the activities of our Agency Force and provides training assistance when possible to Agency in the development of professionally competent Commercial Agents.
The Senior Commercial Underwriter I reviews underwriting guidelines and processes to ensure compliance with regulations and desired risk tolerance. The incumbent will complete documentation for individual underwriting files to ensure documentation meets standards.
Internal contacts include co-workers in Commercial Underwriting, Business Center Directors, and VP's. External contacts are agents, agency managers and others.
