Anticipated travel for this role is 50% to 90% including overnight stays and local day travel. You will be responsible for providing your own transportation to and from the office and job sites. You will be reimbursed for business expenses such as tolls, parking and business-related mileage at a rate allowable by government standards. The expenses incurred traveling to and from the office are excluded from reimbursement.
Physical Requirements:
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Design and Programming of SCADA Systems using Wonderware, Ignition, Iconics, etc.
- Design and Programming of PLC based control systems using Allen-Bradley, GE, Schneider, Mitsubishi, etc.
- Configuring Third Party Software Systems for Power Applications
- Solid understanding of communications methodologies using ethernet, serial, fiber, radio, coaxial, DSL, etc.
- Solid understanding of communication protocols using Modbus, ethernet/IP, DNP3, GE, EtherCAT, OPC, Koyo, etc.
- Design and quality control of Point to Point Wiring Diagrams
- Assist engineering with control wiring and control concepts
- Maintaining PLC / Networking / SCADA systems in field
- Utilize basic engineering principles and practical design solutions.
- Assist in the development and review of custom designs and sequences
- Assist with Equipment Deliveries
- Work with Clients, Sales People, Managers and Engineers to coordinate project designs
- Work with sub-consultant(s) to coordinate trades
- Participate in an on-call schedule rotation
- Attend job meetings & coordinate activities as required
- Attend training as requested to further enhance your duties
- Lead, delegate and train staff
- Adhere to all company and client safety standards
- Communicate with project managers and clients
- Understand project scope and identify opportunities for "scope creep" for communication to project manager
- Identify new project opportunities
- Startup, commissioning and modification of SCADA and PLC based control systems
- Field Point to Point Wiring Diagram Inspections and walk downs
- Solid understanding of communications methodologies using ethernet, serial, fiber, radio, coaxial, DSL, etc.
- Understanding control wiring and control concepts
- Ability to read electrical loop and related electrical and controls system drawings
- Initial setup and maintaining PLC, Networking and SCADA systems in field
- Assist with installing software on Windows workstations and servers and some configuration
- Performs start up, testing and customer training on features and general maintenance of product
- Communication cable and connector termination (RJ11, RJ45, specialty)
- Panel wiring including conductor routing, termination, harnessing, and cabling to support 5VDC up to 480VAC.
- Wiring of PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, industrial computers, data concentrators, controllers, power relays and meters, cell modems, routers and other control and monitoring components
- Develops creative solutions to more unique, chronic or complex issues
- Typically in the field at customer sites in remote locations on most days
- Ability to go to a site for field commissioning, service or maintenance visit on short notice
- Work with clients, sales people, managers and engineers to coordinate project deliverables and schedules
- Work with sub-consultant(s) to coordinate trades
- Attend job meetings & coordinate activities as required
- Attend training as requested to further enhance your duties
- Lead, Delegate, and Train staff during commissioning activities at customer sites
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will likely have the following qualities:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work accurately, with attention to detail
- Experience with Wonderware and Ignition a plus
- Experience with Allen-Bradley or similar PLCs a plus
- Ability to use power and manual hand tools
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical and assembly drawings
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding initiative, well-organized and strong sense of responsibility
- Excellent computer knowledge and advanced skills using Microsoft Office applications are required
Education & Experience:
- 6 plus years of experience in an Electrical and Controls Technician (E&C) or Electrical and Instrumentation Technician (E&I) role, HVAC System Technician, Systems Integration role or 2 plus years' experience as a Controls Designer
- Some college or technical school education preferred
- Work experience in the manufacturing, construction or engineering industry is an advantage
License & Certifications:
- Driver's License required
