The Opportunity
The Senior Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that all controls equipment is properly maintained and meets current safety standards. You will create plans for engineering projects, including preparing designs, project controls and specifications, drafting schedules, cost estimates, and overseeing the production, installation, and testing of new equipment and processes. Additionally, you will collaborate with other departments and external parties to enhance plant efficiency.

You will create plans for engineering projects, including preparing designs, project controls and specifications, drafting schedules, cost estimates, and overseeing the production, installation, and testing of new equipment and processes. Additionally, you will collaborate with other departments and external parties to enhance plant efficiency.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and Development: Design and develop mechanical and electrical projects to support site goals for productivity, cost efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Project Management: Manage capital engineering projects to meet defined budgets and schedules, including the management of outside vendors and suppliers.
- Equipment Specification and Installation: Specify equipment and manage the physical installation of equipment during moves and upgrades.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support to plant maintenance groups regarding installation, troubleshooting, process control, and equipment repair.
- Engineering Drawings: Draft and manage all engineering drawings.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in Kaizen events, understand factors contributing to KPIs, and identify areas for improvement.
- Travel: Some travel may be required to support projects at other plants or perform equipment acceptance testing at vendor facilities (less than 10%).
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of overall manufacturing experience.
- Independence and Teamwork: Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team environment with limited supervision.
- Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of advanced machine control concepts and programming of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs.
- Problem Solving: Ability to evaluate controls engineering problems, solve issues independently, and establish procedures and/or corrective actions to avoid reoccurrences.
- Flexibility: Availability to work around production hours as needed in a matrix organization.
- Project Management: Proven project management skills. PMP certification is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD or SOLIDWORKS, RSLogix, and Siemens TIA Portal is required.
