Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Automation Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced monitoring, communication, and control systems for energy infrastructure. This role combines strategic innovation and hands-on application, focusing on troubleshooting circuits, electro-mechanical systems, and control systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system integration and troubleshooting across both hardware and software platforms. Travel opportunities are included for project needs across North America.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Integration: Lead the development and integration of PLC and SCADA systems, creating innovative solutions for monitoring and control.
  • Troubleshooting & System Support: Troubleshoot and resolve issues in circuits and electro-mechanical systems, ensuring reliable operation of integrated systems.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, reduce lead times, and improve efficiency in system designs and implementation.
  • Specifications & Documentation: Work with teams to define hardware and software specifications, review and prepare detailed electrical and mechanical diagrams.
  • Software & System Management: Oversee seamless software installations, manage updates, version control, and ensure testing is done to the highest standards.
  • System Connectivity: Design, implement, and troubleshoot communication networks to ensure flawless interaction between system components.
  • Testing & Validation: Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), documenting test plans and results accurately.
  • Mentor & Develop: Share expertise with junior engineers, mentoring them on best practices in system design, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Project Management: Ensure projects stay on track by monitoring progress, meeting milestones, and keeping teams aligned and informed.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience in control systems, automation, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of control platforms, system programming, and troubleshooting circuits and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Instrumentation Knowledge: Strong understanding of process instrumentation and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills with experience resolving complex challenges across multiple systems.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office and engineering tools to drive collaboration and efficiency.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with teams, customers, and suppliers.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector is a plus but not required.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, particularly in platforms such as Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency in SCADA and HMI programming, including platforms like Ignition, Wonderware, or equivalent.
  • Strong ability to explain complex control systems and electrical wiring to non-engineers.
  • Experience creating detailed technical documentation, including control logic, test procedures, and user manuals.
  • Experience in on-site commissioning and system start-up for complex control systems.
