THE DEPARTMENT

The following teams make up the Technology department: Business Analysis and Quality Assurance, Applications Development, Applications Support, and Engineering. The group is responsible for developing, maintaining and optimizing the company's technology platforms, while ensuring seamless operations across global regions (US, UK, AUS and Europe). The team drives software development, integrations, automation while also supporting localized IT needs, service delivery, business continuity and compliance. This team plays a critical role in ensuring technology innovation is aligned with business strategy, delivering seamless IT experiences while supporting global operations

THE ROLE OF A DIRECTOR

A Senior Director is usually a department or division head in a business. The director supervises and leads a group of managers and associates in a particular area of an organization. Directors help set where and when; guiding others on what and why. Directors are responsible for the how in implementation.

Job responsibilities of a director include:
  • Direct management or direct reports in deployment of company strategy, goals & mission
  • Guide, mentor and manage the Directors
  • Develops and oversees department budget and goals
  • Works with Vice President Team on company goals/initiatives
  • Evaluating associates periodically for promotions and career opportunities, approving ratings
  • Supervising managers during certain projects
  • Developing and implementing policies for executives to review
  • Reporting to senior-level leadership such as a Senior Director or VP
  • Planning, directing and coordinating department strategic efforts and day-to-day processes, including assigning tasks and giving direction to subordinates
  • Understanding and creating department budgets for upper management
  • Evaluating and developing strategies and plans for departmental success
  • Ensuring a healthy work environment and lead the culture for their associates and managers
  • May interact with global offices
  • Approve hiring and termination requests
  • Collaborating with other business leaders and teams on cross functional strategic projects and developing departmental plans that support such projects
  • Project management of the various projects within their department
  • Relationship point of contact for vendors and other external stakeholders that impact their departments
  • Synthesizes data and information to make recommendations to upper management on strategic or high-value initiatives
  • Accountable for achievement of team/department's goals
  • Partners with senior management on broader departments people and succession strategy
  • Guide, mentor and manage the Directors
  • Develops and oversees department budget and goals
  • Works with Vice President Team on company goals/initiatives
  • Responsible for P&L Implications within their department
  • Participate with global offices and/or global strategy


THE POSITION

The Senior Director, Software Engineering is responsible for the following results:
  • Defining and implementing technical strategies and roadmaps in alignment with the company's objectives.
  • Leading and managing multiple software engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software products and services.
  • Ensuring adherence to best practices in coding, testing, and deployment, and maintaining high standards of software quality.
  • Managing the software engineering department's budget, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
  • Mentoring and developing team members, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate into the organization's practices.
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration within the engineering team and across departments to achieve business goals.
  • Driving the resolution of technical challenges and leading efforts to improve engineering processes.
  • Establishing metrics and monitoring systems to track performance, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and addressing security concerns throughout the software development lifecycle.


EDUCATION

The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; or 10+ years' related software development experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

The preferred candidate has noteworthy experience in the following areas:
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Certified Scrum Master
  • Proven experience managing large, global engineering teams and complex software development projects
  • Deep expertise in modern software development methodologies, cloud architectures, and DevOps practices
  • Experience with microservices, APIs, Cloud platforms (Azure) and enterprise software solutions
  • Strong understanding of security, scalability and performance best practices
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile/Scrum.
  • Proficiency in technology strategy, cloud infrastructure, and software architecture.
  • Experience with budget management, project planning, and resource allocation.
  • Expertise in managing software development projects, from conception to completion.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on scalability and performance optimization.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in the travel, hospitality, or ecommerce industry is a plus.
