The manager ensures that operating units meet or exceed annual objectives and successfully implement organizational initiatives. This role is also responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all managers.

Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the financial performance and productivity of multiple operating units, including solid waste landfills and transfer stations. The manager ensures that operating units meet or exceed annual objectives and successfully implement organizational initiatives. This role is also responsible for onboarding, developing, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all managers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements an operating plan aligned with long-range objectives, enhancing effectiveness and defining responsibilities and authority.
- Directly manages approximately 8 employees, including Operations Manager, Leachate Plant Manager, Operations Specialist, Environmental Specialist, and Scale House Attendant. Indirectly manages approximately 30 laborers and heavy equipment operators.
- Continuously evaluates performance within the area of responsibility, establishing proper performance measures.
- Provides direction to managers on program execution, and when necessary, modifies work plans or implements contingency plans according to business conditions.
- Develops operating unit budgets in a timely manner, forecasting financial and human resource needs for future periods.
- Assists managers with budget optimization and provides budget compliance support.
- Oversees personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Organizes and schedules necessary resources to accomplish activities.
- Attends regularly scheduled profit and loss (P&L) reviews and executes prescribed programs related to equipment utilization, maintenance, labor, and material costs.
- Implements and maintains programs to improve safety, productivity, and profitability, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Qualifications
A. Education and Experience:
- Education: Associate's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of relevant work experience required.
- Experience: 5 years of prior work experience (in addition to education requirement) in operations management, including at least three years managing a team of two or more individuals required.
B. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, or Other Requirements:
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required:
- Experience in operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial and human resources functions; experience as a supervisor or manager; experience implementing safety programs (such as OSHA) and equipment specifications; experience preparing and managing budgets, and resolving labor relations issues.

- Landfill operations
- Leachate management
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:
- 10 years of applicable experience, including 5 years managing a team of 5 or more individuals (preferably, managing managers/supervisors).
- 10 years of experience in solid waste, landfill, and/or earthwork construction fields.
- Technical and/or engineering background.
- Experience with leachate, landfill gas, landfill development, environmental protection, air emissions, permitting.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
