Position Summary
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for compliance with state and federal environmental regulations and with environmental permitting. This position provides technical assistance for the development and implementation of the Company's environmental strategies, including but not limited to air, water, waste and environmental management systems. Inspects Company property to identify areas and make recommendations for both OSHA and EPA regulation compliance. Trains operating staff in the regulations and assists with compliance activities and oversees soil, waste sampling, and disposal.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities
Computer/Software Applications
Proficient skills and effective use of Microsoft Office applications; Basic knowledge and understanding of Federal, State and Local environmental, health and safety regulations (e.g. EPA, UDEQ, DOGM, BLM, Tribal Lands); Working knowledge of operating procedures and practices; Ability to interface with other departments and outside contractors or regulatory agencies in an effective and professional manner; Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Required Education: BS degree in environmental science, ecology, chemistry, engineering or related science isrequiredProfessional Environmental Certification is preferred.
Required Experience: Minimum of 6 years of oil and gas experience including 5 years of environmental.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and procedures to assure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local environmental regulations.
- Manage environmental planning, reporting and tracking of air quality requirements, emissions inventory, Tier II, SPCC, NORM, water/waste management, pollution prevention, reclamation and remediation.
- Promote environmental awareness at all levels of the organization.
- Responsible for obtaining all environmental permits necessary to operate.
- Obtain, interpret and communicate environmental regulations to which the Region is subject.
- Assist in the development and presentation of training to ensure compliance with environmental regulations including reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
- Conduct inspections and evaluate facilities for applicability and compliance with relevant federal, state and local environmental compliance laws and regulations.
- Attend industry trade group meetings and participate in industry regulatory development efforts.
- Coordinate and participate with corporate EHS staff in development of EHS management system.
- Serve as a liaison with contractors regarding company EHS expectations and compliance requirements.
- Conduct contractor EHS management systems audits and support Contractors in the implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist engineering and field personnel in planning for compliance of new and modified processes and operations with environmental and safety regulations.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the Region's Emergency Response Plans and Procedures.
- Participate in incident investigations, spill remediation, reporting and implementation of corrective actions.
- Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all people associated with SM facilities.
