Overview
This person has the capability to perform most discipline estimates, producing a complete estimate for all required work from basic takeoffs through final cost (all materials, fabrication, subcontracts, construction, localization, and indirects) for all work required for a project. They organize and plan the estimating effort, including the leading of discipline estimators, and take responsibility for the complete cost estimate. They are capable of producing detailed takeoffs as well as developing both conceptual and budget estimates.

Overview
- The Sr. Estimator is responsible for handling estimates with minimal supervision from management. This role reports directly to the Estimating Manager and the employee routinely interacts with others in Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Fabrication to develop a fully priced estimates.
This person has the capability to perform most discipline estimates, producing a complete estimate for all required work from basic takeoffs through final cost (all materials, fabrication, subcontracts, construction, localization, and indirects) for all work required for a project. They organize and plan the estimating effort, including the leading of discipline estimators, and take responsibility for the complete cost estimate. They are capable of producing detailed takeoffs as well as developing both conceptual and budget estimates.
Responsibilities
- Sr. Estimator will be authorized to have selected access to previous business unit financial and project data, new pricing, and rates to prepare cost estimates.
- Sr. Estimator will be responsible to prepare estimates for commercial proposals by working together with engineering, production, procurement, subcontracts, human resources, and operations groups.
- Remit and responsibilities assigned to Sr. Estimator and his work will be measured through existing Gate Reviews and annual performance reviews.
- Managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
- Responsible for preparing estimates for commercial proposals by working with operations, engineering, supply chain, and fabrication groups
- Develops the estimate based on estimating standards, closeout data, and the scope of work
- Analyzes scope documents, including specifications, drawings, bills of material, historical data, and calculates project costs using labor and material pricing schedules
- Prepares the estimate by the work breakdown structure and chart of accounts
- Responsible for preparing conceptual and definitive total installed cost estimates
- Conducts precontract kickoff meetings with project managers and business line management to plan bid strategy and ascertain methods of performance based on the scope of work
- Assists in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors
- Obtains review and input from Legal, Tax, Insurance, Finance, and other corporate support groups
- Collaborates with other functions during estimate creation to ensure overall accuracy
- Has the ability to recommend cost-reduction and value-engineering options
- Performs risk analysis and leads risk register workshops
- Presents estimates to the team and management in a timely and professional manner including developing estimate basis document and comparable metrics
Qualifications
- BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
- 15+ years of relevant experience, with 10+ years in an Estimating role
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Experience with VBA programming is valued
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of construction processes
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Understands relationships between work processes and the cost to our business
