Senior Experience Studies Actuary
Your Purpose: The Senior Experience Studies Actuary manages and produces new experience studies for the Society. This involves working with teams of volunteers to design experience studies, coordinating with outside research partners and contractors to produce experience results, and preparation of deliverables such as research reports, experience tables, and data visualization tools. The Senior Experience Studies Actuary's principal mission is to provide SOA member actuaries working in various fields with the essential information and data needed to perform their work.

What You'll Do:
- Lead and manage all research phases, including the development of study design, data preparation, collection, cleansing, validation, analysis, report writing, peer review, publication, and marketing of results.
- Conduct feasibility surveys to evaluate industry interest and value for future studies.
- Collaborate with contractors, legal counsel, and management to ensure the approval and initiation of vendor contracts.
- Supervise data validation, cleansing, and compilation for experience studies, either directly or through internal and external resources.
- Form and oversee necessary committees and project oversight groups for conducting and managing studies.
- Provide Marketing and Communications with information to promote completed studies and proactively communicate research to media and members.
- Work with legal counsel to manage legal and reputational risks associated with studies.
- Perform analysis and research requested by regulators and statistical agents.
- Act as a liaison to organizations interested in experience studies.
- Participate in SOA meetings and present on SOA research.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, accounting, economics or a related field
- ASA or FSA required
- Ten years of experience in the actuarial profession. Experience with broad areas of practice is desirable including life insurance, annuities, retirement plans, long term care, disability income and other health products.
- Ten years of experience in project management or team leadership.
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple team members, and take ownership and accountability for an experience study from start-to-finish
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel pivot tables or similar data analytical software tools.
- Knowledge of predictive analytics programs, such as R
- Intermediate knowledge of SAS or ability and commitment to obtain intermediate knowledge of SAS quickly.
- Understand and incorporate requirements and strategies of the organization in identifying, assessing, and determining business plans and solutions.
- Determine solutions to achieve the organization's strategies and goals.
- Advanced English and writing skills
- Working knowledge of Word and other related software tools
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with people with diverse backgrounds, experience, and levels of authority
- Independent worker with ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
- Advanced time and project management skills
