Sr Food Scientist

Job Description

Oversee all aspects of product development to ensure products meet nutritional profiles, ingredient statements, and desired attributes. Ensure effective scale-up and commercialization procedures are utilized throughout product development.
Responsibilities
  • Process recipe changes and maintain accurate records of modifications.
  • Lead discussions and reviews to collaborate on next steps and align on critical decisions in product development.
  • Source new ingredients for development, cost optimization, and product improvements.
  • Manage a portfolio of product development projects through various stages of the lifecycle.
  • Develop finished product and processing specifications, including creating integrated recipes using relevant systems or programs.
  • Plan and collect analytical data to support NLEA labeling requirements and implement nutritional labeling claims or certification processes for new or existing products.
  • Create product development schedules that meet project and customer timelines.
  • Develop specifications and testing protocols for new products based on customer attributes.
  • Support cost-saving initiatives through ingredient, product, and process optimization.
  • Manage and execute customer/plant trials and new product startups.
  • Coordinate sample shipments to ensure timely and accurate delivery for customer evaluations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including procurement, project management, sales, marketing, finance, packaging, food safety, regulatory, and manufacturing to develop innovative, customer-focused products and solutions.
  • Establish production parameters and processing procedures by drafting product specifications.
  • Prepare reports and technical proposals to support product development, interpreting scientific data and trends.
  • Ensure competencies required for product legality, safety, and quality are met in accordance with the Quality Policy and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate/plant safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements, following Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Up to 30% travel may be required, including international travel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Culinary, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Proven knowledge of food industry standards, including quality, food safety, HACCP, and GMPs.
  • Self-motivated with strong experience and interest in scientific procedures and food safety best practices.
  • Results-driven with a demonstrated ability to advance projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and working independently to meet project deliverables and timelines.
  • Minimum of 5 years in new product development, from concept to launch, including commercialization and cost improvements.
  • Experience in aseptic and/or thermal process food sauce development.
  • Expertise in food sauce development.
Work Environment

This position is based in a stable company with opportunities for promotion. The role requires up to 30% travel, including international travel. The work environment includes collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to corporate/plant safety standards and regulatory requirements. Good Manufacturing Practices and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards are followed. The dress code and other specific facility conditions are as per company policy.
Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
