Sr. Geneticist, Meat & Muscle Scientist

The expectations of this position is identifying, developing and commercializing new methodologies for characterizing and understanding muscle myopathies including but not limited to woody breast. The successful candidate will be the subject matter expert for muscle myopathies at Cobb. This person will additionally identify new technologies, design, execute and compile scientific research to properly evaluate. The successful candidate will also be responsible for applying sensory technologies with focus on improving yield and consumer product quality.

Some areas of interest for Cobb include the following:

1) Estimate the genetic basis and develop predictive models for muscle myopathies including deep pectoral, white striping, woody and spaghetti breast.

2) Exploration of pattern of growth, muscle development and metabolic rate as related to breast muscle myopathies.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: Doctoral Degree Ph.D or equivalent in quantitative genetics, animal breeding, muscle biology, food science, poultry or animal science with program emphasis on meat quality or related scientific field.
• Experience: Eight 8 plus years related work and educational experience.
• Computer Skills: Requires advanced computer and statistical skills. For example programming in multiple languages including but not limited to SAS Statistical Analysis System Unix Fortran R or related software.
• Statistical Program Skills: Requires advanced skills with Genetic Evaluation programs similar to ASREML DMU GIBBS or related packages and to be able to interpret the results from the system.
• Biosecurity Requirements: When visiting jobsites biosecure environments showering before entering the facilities is required. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsites except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species chickens ducks birds . The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times.
• Physical Requirements: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job the team member is regularly required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms balance stoop talk or hear. The team member must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Personal Protective Equipment: When visiting facilities is expected to follow the required safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment.
• Supervisory: Quantitative Geneticists, Data Analysts and when necessary Post-Doctoral Geneticist trainees.
• Travel: Travel will be 15% of the time to R&D facilities located throughout the United States and occasionally globally.
