We are seeking an experienced Research Team Manager, to join our Atlanta Research & Innovation Team. Our new Research and Innovation Unit concentrates on long-term research within our global platforms. This position is located in our Atlanta Research & Development Center and may have the opportunity to participate in hybrid work.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Leadership
    • Providing strong leadership and management of a Research team supporting a variety of areas, including a focus on sustainability and new areas for Kemira.
    • Performing personnel and administrative tasks which include hiring, performance management, conflict resolution, career development discussions, salary administration and expense review & approval.
    • Promoting and complying with federal, state, corporate, and customer health, safety, and environmental policies including training and accident/incident reporting.
    • Maintaining a safe and effective working environment.


  • Processes
    • Collaborating with stakeholders to fully understand their needs in terms of purpose, quality, and timing.
    • I actively contribute to project teams for new product development and segment discovery, which leads to new areas for Kemira.
    • Aligning local R&I activities and initiatives with the function & company vision, strategy, and processes.
    • Ensuring the continuous improvement of competencies and technologies for technical customer support and new product development.


  • Resources
    • Assessing project needs and allocating resources (internal and external) to most efficiently resolve customers' technical issues.
    • Establishing and managing the team budget.


  • Coordination
    • Contributing regularly, across the Kemira R&D centers, on competency development and capital planning.
    • Serving as an active participant to the regional R&I management team
    • Liaisoning with other departmental managers and key stakeholders to ensure proper alignment of objectives and smooth running of company processes and procedures on a day to day basis.


What you'll bring to the team:
  • PhD/MSc/BSc Engineering, Chemistry, or similar discipline from an accredited college/university and 10+ years of relevant experience (5+ years managerial in an R&D environment)
  • Interpersonal skills: customer orientation, cultural interpersonal effectiveness, communicating with impact
  • Business management skills: driving execution, business acumen, entrepreneurship, project leadership
  • Leadership skills: coaching/teaching, empowerment/delegation, team development, change leadership
  • Proven supervisory and teambuilding skills in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Knowledge of Pulp and Paper and/or Water treatment markets/testing a plus
