EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Four or more years of Engineering/Technical schooling required. Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering/Technology degree(s).
  • Requires 3 to 6 years' experience in mechanical and/or electrical design, process improvement, and directing or coordinating manufacturing projects in a factory environment.
  • Expertise in gas fired equipment, burners, and combustion controls for continuous use process enameling cure ovens and annealers.
  • Experience with industrial temperature 700 Deg. F to 1500 Deg. F oven systems and catalytic VOC emissions.
  • Experience with vertical and horizontal multiple zone process thermal oven systems.
  • Experience with oven control upgrades, PLC interfacing and programming, and control system improvements.
  • Experience in oven design and fabrication methods in order to qualify upgrades, repairs, and improvements in design, structure, and/or materials. Mut also be familiar with combustion safety and NFPA 86 requirements.

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

This is a Sr. Manufacturing/Combustion Engineer position responsible for troubleshooting, improving, and maintaining the process oven equipment and controllers of the plant. Under the direction and guidance of the Engineering Manager, or senior leadership position to whom assigned, perform a variety of functions in the development and / or improvement of production methods, processes, machines, automation / interface, equipment, and tooling designs used in the manufacture of wire products. Investigate and recommend areas for cost reduction, perform computations, collect engineering data, perform feasibility studies, prepare reports, and handle other specific tasks as required. Ultimately support the plant in meeting all Key Performance Indicators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the plant's Key Performance Indices by,
  • Directing major engineering projects and complete tasks as assigned. Perform various duties including: engineering studies and investigations, machine / equipment / tooling design, process and assembly development, database design and development, equipment acquisition and plant layout. Work collectively with Quality, Production, Maintenance and other departments to improve manufacturing methods and reduce costs.
  • Making recommendations regarding process design from the standpoint of manufacturing engineering. Participate in the implementation of new methods, equipment, machines and tooling. As necessary, assist supervisors and operators during the course of production as well as with conducting trial runs.
  • Maintaining product and process specifications including database and report modifications as needed.
  • Investigating improved methods and equipment. Develop advanced methods of production and data collection. Simplify or eliminate manual operations, utilizing and developing automation approaches when feasible. Investigate problems in production or operations and devised solutions to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Recommend improvements in preventive maintenance, safety and housekeeping.
  • Using initiative, ingenuity and sound engineering techniques and approaches while performing technical investigations. Seek and accept functional guidance and assistance from others on matters within their areas of competence.
  • Promoting, evaluating and recommending safe work practices and accident-free environment. Ensure that operating procedures for all new and existing equipment have been documented for use by others.
  • Exercising responsibility for professional development through continuing study, attending technical society meetings and similar means. Keep informed on developments in methods, machines, equipment, tooling and materials through technical literature, trade shows and vendor visits.
  • Continuously seeking out, evaluating, and presenting ideas for improvement to quality, cost, performance, and environmental impact.
  • Assisting supervisors with new production techniques and assists with troubleshooting rejected parts. May provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced engineers.
  • Performing other related duties as directed by management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Demonstrated skills in process development
  • Capable of implementing process and equipment improvement, and other capital projects
  • Requires knowledge of machine, equipment and tool design; manufacturing methods and equipment, including materials handling; and specific aspects of product design, quality control and costs
  • Expertise in multiple areas of manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with Design of Experiments, including full data analysis
  • Capable of serving as a mentor to other engineers
  • Demonstrated leadership in Lean Manufacturing principles, certification as Six Sigma Green Belt, or other special skills

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Statistical Software - MiniTab
  • CAD
