The Mechanical Engineer role is responsible for driving the technical direction of projects, providing expert guidance to other engineers, overseeing complex design and development processes, and setting strategic roadmaps for their area of expertise, often acting as the technical authority on large-scale initiative. This role will serve as Responsible Engineer for our projects - which are designed, manufactured, assembled, and tested all in our 54,000 sq. ft. facility located in Longmont, Colorado.

Job Information:
This is a full-time, permanent position. This position is eligible for the employer-sponsored benefits listed under "CMi is Proud to Offer." This position is considered exempt (paid on a salaried basis).
Pay range: $120,000-$160,000 based on qualifications and experience.

What You'll Do (Essential Job Functions):
- Conceptualizing and designing new mechanical systems by generating innovative ideas, performing feasibility analysis, and creating detailed design concepts for new products or product improvements.
- Provide technical leadership on proposal development.
- Oversee testing, experimentation, and simulations to validate design concepts and improve performance.
- Overseeing the fabrication of prototypes for testing and validation, including managing relationships with external vendors.
- Provide technical expertise to support manufacturing, quality control, and production line setup.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary projects, demonstrating knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Present complex technical designs to customer.
- Find opportunities for design-for-manufacturability, cost reduction, and product optimization.
- Drive product enhancements and design modifications, leading the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process with precision.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to optimize products, processes, and systems.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up principles to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to address complex engineering challenges.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives to prevent recurring issues.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams to ensure technical excellence in product design and manufacturing.
- Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards and standard practices
- Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical growth.
- Stay informed on emerging engineering trends, technologies, and methodologies to enhance product development.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes and methodologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring (Desired Experience and Skills):
- Demonstrated experience, understanding, and proficiency in the following:
- GD&T
- Manufacturing drawing creation and requirements
- Materials consideration in designing for spaceflight applications
- Testing requirements and results interpretation for environmental conditions (vibration, thermal)
- Compliance to aerospace and spaceflight requirements
- Fluent in SolidWorks
- Fluent with hand calcs and analysis software, preferably Nastran and/or Femap.
- Experience performing DFMEA and root cause analyses
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
Your Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering.
- At least 10 years of related design and analysis experience within the aerospace industry required.
- Must provide proof of US Citizenship or Permanent Residency to comply with ITAR regulations.
- Ability to pass a drug screen per Company Policy.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check per Company Policy.
- Ability to obtain US Secret Clearance.
