The Chocolate Bayou Plant located in Alvin, Tx has a great opportunity for a Senior Process Design Engineer, who will be responsible for scoping, executing, and commissioning new projects to add capabilities, improve quality, and increase production capacity. The role is focused on finding creative solutions to problems, in terms of rapid implementation timetables, best alignment with customer and business needs, and lowest cost.

TARGETED OUTCOMES
- Identifies and develops process solutions which meet the performance and flexibility needs of the business.
- Develops creative process designs for new chemicals business with phased capital approaches.
- Applies approved design practices, work processes, and design tools to develop innovative, cost effective solutions.
- Effectively applies the new technology development and project stage-gate processes to complete project deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process Engineering & Project Management:
- Provide process engineering to deliver the capital plan with innovative, cost-effective designs that support business objectives.
- Develop process flow diagrams, heat & mass balances, piping & instrument diagrams, and process specifications from initial concept to final design.
- Proactively manage project milestone delivery, identify and overcome potential obstacles and issues, devise contingency plans, and engage stakeholders at necessary decision points.
Safety & Compliance:
- Improve safety & environmental performance, design for inherently safer processes, and leverage industry best practices.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations and applicable industry codes, standards and RAGAGEP.
- Resolve high-priority safety and environmental recommendations with practical and creative solutions.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and drive improvements in chemical intermediates manufacturing processes by:
- Identifying and engineering productivity improvements in yields and energy.
- Developing projects for low-cost routes to debottleneck capacity.
- Optimizing operating conditions for conversion costs.
TEAM
- Reports to: Process Design Engineering Manager
- Team: Collaborates with process engineers, project engineers, discipline engineers, production engineers, operations, reliability, ESSH.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- BS or MS in Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience within the chemicals industry or a closely related field
- 2+ years' experience leading process design teams with capital projects of $5MM+.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Deep knowledge of process design fundamentals, codes, standards, and RAGAGEP
- Excellent problem-solving and program management skills.
- Proficient in applying basic chemical engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, vapor-liquid equilibria, mass transfer, solids separation, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, and fluid hydraulics to the process design of new or modified chemical production facilities.
- Proficient in the process design of equipment including pressure vessels, distillation columns, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, control valves, atmospheric tanks, solids separation equipment, pressure relief devices, etc.
- Proficient in the use of process design software and simulation packages such as Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS.
- Ability to coach and mentor junior process engineers.
