Sr. Program Manager, Strategy

The Senior Program Manager, Strategy, under the direction of the Director, Strategy, Acceleration & Care Transformation, leads strategic initiatives, performs business, market, and financial analysis, as well as cost containment consulting initiatives for the Georgia Region. Serves as both a broad-based business advisor and a Project Manager in partnership with TSPMG & Health Plan executive sponsors and business owners. The Senior Program Manager drives efficient and effective operations and improvements, while achieving high-priority business objectives and outcomes. This position will also help lead the strategic planning process for the medical group, which requires engagement of multiple executive-level sponsors and other leaders. Position takes accountability for all project work & functions independently with minimal guidance. Areas of focus will include, but will not be limited to, cost saving initiatives, strategic planning and implementation of organizational imperatives, department and inter-departmental initiatives, internalizations, and other work, as assigned.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions

1.Provides leadership direction and subject matter expertise to create, monitor, and drive accountability for the Care Model Strategy - the organization's strategic operating plan for care delivery. This includes partnering with executive leaders to develop the strategy annually, and identify key performance indicators (KPIs), collaborating with the Business Intelligence Group to build automated dashboards to track KPI performance that are augmented with manual data when needed, and determine an accountability structure to ensure that all Care Model Strategy workstreams are progressing as planned. Requires extensive experience in strategy development and management and deep understanding of care delivery operations and related functional areas.

2.Medical Group Administration - Partners closely with the AMD of Business Systems and Strategy and other key stakeholders in supporting priority initiatives for medical group administration and strategy. This includes the research, analysis, work plan development, risk mitigation, and project management of outside medical initiatives, capital projects planning, service line internalizations, implementations, and other high priority projects.

3.Operational Efficiency Process Improvement -- Leads the implementation of process improvement projects if improvements or projected ROI is not being realized. Facilitates communication and leads problem resolution between interdepartmental groups across TSPMG, Health Plan, and interdisciplinary groups to understand the issues and work through possible solutions.

4.Executive Consulting - Supports with special projects as assigned on behalf of the AMD of Business Systems and Strategy.

5.Growth strategy, marketing, and products - serves as a subject matter expert in support of the AMD of Business Systems and Strategy to influence health plan growth priorities including marketing, product, and line of business initiatives.

6.Analysis and Business Intelligence - Research external best practices and identifies benchmarks within local Atlanta market and/or other Kaiser Permanente regions to inform project targets. Analyzes outside medical spend, develops business cases, and presents and defends the cases, as per the determined KPGA process. Designs and delivers robust analytical models for strategic initiatives. Is the primary ACTS team owner for helping to identify project savings and partners with Finance to ensure that savings are validated and tracked.

7.Partners with TSPMG reporting resources to obtain needed data and project dashboards or reports for physician level and leadership review. Monitors key performance metrics and develops approaches and recommendations for spread or intervention.

8. Establishes and maintains collaborative, results-oriented relationships with Associate Medical Directors, Chiefs, Area Chiefs, Acceleration & Care Transformation team, Operations Directors, Business Operations Managers, Physician Directors, the Strategic Hub, the Business Intelligence Group and other medical group and health plan stakeholders.

Minimum Education
  • BA or BS

Preferred Education
  • Master of Business Administration, Master of Healthcare Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Communications, or related graduate degree
  • Ability to use SQL and Epic for various analyses and business case development
  • Experience with claims and other financial analysis
  • Project Management certification or degree

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications
  • 10 years of consulting or operations experience within the healthcare industry
  • 5 years within a multispecialty group practice setting
  • Background in finance, operations, and strategic planning
  • Excellent demonstrated consulting, project management and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with proven record producing results, satisfying customers, reaching performance goals
  • Ability to establish positive, professional relationships with executives, senior leadership, physician and nurse leaders and other team members
  • Demonstrated use and interpretation of quantitative reports and analysis
  • Analytical skills utilizing Microsoft Office applications or similar applications
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as strategic and systems thinking capability
  • Demonstrate proven track record of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications
  • Proven track record of achieving objectives through motivating and leading teams
  • 5 years of demonstrated success in a strategy related role
  • Proficient with the use of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint
