Job Responsibilities:
In this role, as a Senior Risk Analyst specializing in trading within the energy sector, you will contribute to the understanding, quantification, and strategic response to uncertainties in a dynamic and data-intensive business environment. Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading Power Operations Risk Management, involving the analysis of operational reports and assessment of trading risk limits in collaboration with Power Operations.
- Developing new quantitative models, validating existing ones, and assisting internal teams in utilizing models for effective risk analysis and decision-making.
- Providing analytical support for trading, portfolio management, origination, energy market risk, credit risk, and finance.
- Independently analyzing optimization in competitive markets, stochastic simulations, and the dynamics between low-marginal cost resources and traditional energy generators.
- Implementing approaches to quantitatively evaluate energy infrastructure benefits, costs, and risks.
- Designing complex valuation and price models for structured products, including various agreements and derivatives.
- Understanding and utilizing risk metrics models such as Value at Risk (VaR), Mark to Market, and Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR).
- Proposing and implementing portfolio and asset optimization frameworks.
- Leading quantitative research and modeling tasks related to industry trends, energy markets, capacity markets, and commercial activities, using advanced tools and techniques.
- Providing statistical analysis and quantitative tools for trading and hedging purposes.
- Communicating modeling methodologies, analyses, and results effectively to diverse audiences.
- Offering expert witness testimony for market and regulatory proceedings when necessary.
- Making decisions in accordance with the existing Risk Management Policy and Procedure framework.
Required Skills:
- Utilities experience is preferred, with a broad background in energy and quantitative risk analysis in North America, focusing on power, natural gas, and renewables.
- Top 3 Must-Haves: Experience with Production Cost Modeling, wholesale power and/or gas markets experience, and familiarity with Risk Management Systems.
- Top 3 Nice-To-Haves: Experience with Endur ETRM, Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, and the ability to translate numbers into actionable plans for coworkers.
About the Team:
- The team consists of six members.
- Responsibilities mainly involve Risk and Position reporting for commodity trading, requiring a full understanding of the portfolio.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- BS or MS in a discipline related to engineering, statistics, science, or economics.
- 3 - 4+ years of experience in a similar role within the energy industry.
Candidate Attributes:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A broad background in energy and quantitative risk analysis in North America.
- 3 - 4 or more years of experience in a quantitative role within the energy industry.
- Expertise in techniques such as time series analysis, advanced regression, and econometric techniques.
- Experience with Production Cost Modeling.
- Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with different organizations outside of risk management.
- Experience with Endur ETRM is a plus.
