Overview

A multi-disciplinary team of researchers led by Dr. Mariella G. Filbin at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (with co-affiliation with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard) seeks a Sr. Scientist to join efforts to find new treatment strategies for pediatric brain tumors. Our team uses cutting-edge single cell genomics as well as gene editing tools to understand the hierarchies of cancer cells within tumors and their interaction with the microenvironment, with a particular focus on cancer stem-cell programs and their translation into novel treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Research Leadership:

    Senior Scientists lead research programs and projects from inception to completion, including defining objectives, designing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results.
  • Team Management:

    They often oversee and mentor teams of junior scientists, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
  • Collaboration:

    Senior Scientists collaborate with external partners, stakeholders, and other departments to facilitate research, secure funding, and ensure project alignment.
  • Technical Expertise:

    They possess deep knowledge and experience in a specific scientific field, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • Compliance and Ethics:

    Senior Scientists ensure that all research activities adhere to regulatory standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Communication:

    They effectively communicate complex scientific information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project Management:

    They are responsible for planning, organizing, and executing research projects within defined timelines and budgets.
  • Problem Solving:

    Senior Scientists develop innovative solutions to complex scientific problems and address research challenges.
  • Publication and Presentation:

    They contribute to the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences.
  • Funding:

    They may be involved in securing funding for research projects through grant applications and other means.


Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred. 6+ years experience post education; One year management responsibility
