BHC Consultants is a consulting engineering, planning, and building code and construction compliance firm with offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Bellingham, Washington. We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Structural Engineer to join our engineering group in one of our three office locations. Collaboration with staff in all offices should be expected; preferred location can be prioritized.

The Senior Structural Engineer will:
- Lead municipal and industrial structural engineering assignments for internal and external clients.
- Lead a group of 2-3 other structural engineers.
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend alternative structural systems/solutions for a wide variety of project demands.
- Lead structural assignments from system selection and concept development through design and construction.
- Provide system designs using concrete, masonry, steel, and wood systems.
- Provide structural plan reviews when serving as a consultant to municipal building departments.
- Determine feasibility of designing new structures or modifying existing structures considering costs, available space, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
- Analyze existing structures and systems with respect to code compliance and seismic requirements.
- Provide technical information concerning erection techniques, materials, properties, and advantages and limitations that affect long-range engineering planning.
- Analyze project conditions and performance requirements to confirm that designs meet project and code requirements.
- Be involved in pursuit of structural engineering lead projects
- Analyze engineering proposals, requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design.
- Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified structures.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (Civil or Structural Engineering)
- State of Washington PE license required. Licensed Professional Structural Engineer (SE) preferred. If currently licensed in another state, obtain the State of Washington license within 6 months of date of hire. If not currently licensed, Structural License, obtain Structural Licenses within 2 years of hire.
- 10+ years demonstrated success working on multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Demonstrated success working on municipal and industrial structural engineering projects.
- Technical leadership and mentoring background.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated consulting engineering skills including project management, time management, scope, schedule, and budget development, with the ability to deliver quality projects on time and within budget.
- A positive attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned company culture.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and MS Project.
The following would also be of benefit:
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS and/or Revit (BIM) design software products
- Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
- Project management training, PMP certification or similar technical design leadership
- Experience with structural calculation and modeling products (e.g., RISA, Entercalc, MATHCAD, SAP2000, etc.)
- Professional society involvement
- Established professional relationships
- Structural design experience with some specialization in water and wastewater infrastructure
- Design and Analysis Experience in steel and concrete ground supported reservoirs.
- Exposure to basic geotechnical engineering
