Summary
The King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is looking for a talented Sr. Systems Engineer to join the 911 Communications Center IT Unit. This position will bring specialized technical knowledge of systems that support a 24/7 mission-critical infrastructure, including the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The Sr Systems Engineer will design, implement, and maintain complex telecommunication systems. The person in this role will be the CAD subject matter expert for the Sheriff's Office. The successful candidate will bring extensive technical expertise, project management and interpersonal skills to support the KCSO Communication Center.
The mission of this IT Unit is to ensure he King County 911 Communications Center facility and systems are well maintained, secure, and fully operational at all times. The Sr, Systems Engineer will report to the IT Supervisor and be a lead to two Sr. IT Specialists and a GIS Specialist.

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be the technical expert for the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and logging recorder systems and responsible for ensuring efficiency and security of these systems and other specialized components on a 24/7 basis. Other duties will include:

Job Duties
The Sr. Systems Engineer will be the technical expert for the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and logging recorder systems and responsible for ensuring efficiency and security of these systems and other specialized components on a 24/7 basis. Other duties will include:
- Project lead for engineering, integration and implementation of IT projects; create technical specifications for projects, project plans, schedules and cost/benefit analyses
- Evaluate and recommend new systems and upgrades.
- Work with users and vendors to identify needs. Research and troubleshoot simple and complex problems including CAD issues with Mobile Dispatch Computers (MDCs) used by police units.
- Coordinate and test necessary program changes, updates and corrections.
- Be the CAD subject matter expert for department issues; participate in the development of systems standards, policies and procedures
- Work with Communication Center GIS Specialist to ensure CAD system geofile accuracy.
- Work with KCSO Research & Planning Unit when necessary to validate statistical data collection.
- Provide escalated/referred problem resolution for internal and external customers; escalate/refer unresolved problems to appropriate resources.
- Document all engineering work, problem resolution and recurring problems; create technical analysis, performance and enhancement reports.Manage system file maintenance to maintain integrity and user security. Maintain vendor accounts in Active Directory.
- Provide other software application support for the 911 Communications Center.
- Work as a part of a team dealing with facility issues in addition to network, computer, telephony, and power systems.
- Consult on and implement disaster recovery plans; ensure disaster recovery is in place.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet mission and team requirements.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
To be considered for this position, candidates must have knowledge of Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) centers and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems with work experience demonstrating the following:
- Advanced knowledge of one or more large impact systems, including mainframes, servers, operating systems, systems software, security, databases, recovery, storage and/or applications
- Advanced knowledge in designing, improving and implementing highly complex telephony systems
- Experience with techniques and best practices for hardware and software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with data extraction and writing SQL
- Ability to conduct system analysis and administer on-going maintenance
- Skills in detailed technical documentation and creating technical reports
- Ability to interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations to support effective and legally compliant policies and procedures.
- Advanced skill in operations, change and configuration management
- Talent in continuous improvement strategies with a focus on customer experience.
- Experience creating detailed technical documentation and logging experience with high attention to detail.
