Job Summary:
You will be responsible for underwriting builders risk projects as part of the Construction and Engineering (C&E) team. You will utilize your business acumen and underwriting skills to develop pricing and negotiate terms and conditions to build a profitable book of business with existing and new retail and wholesale distribution partners.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Underwrite new builder's risk (EAR, CAR, infrastructure) projects and negotiate policy terms and conditions. The underwriting focus is project-specific, highly engineered construction risks
Distribution management: strategically develop broker distribution to generate new business opportunities and manage existing accounts
Prepare quotes, binders, referrals, and underwriting file documentation in compliance with company guidelines
Providing direction to junior underwriter and / or assistant underwriter in the timely processing of Policy / Endorsement wordings
Develop and manage positive and effective working relationships with a commitment to service for all associates (brokers, insureds, and internal personnel) leading to high customer satisfaction
Coordinate and perform regular marketing calls, underwriting meetings, and events to promote product offerings, participate in local professional organizations, and remain current and engaged with existing and prospect insureds and brokers on key developments in the marketplace
Liaise with Claims Department on any specific claim activity and overall market claim concerns which could potentially affect profitability
Supporting the departmental Vice President in setting strategic goals, setting budgets and producing regular Management Information
Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity
This is a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week
Approximately 25% travel required
Qualifications
Job Qualifications;
5+ years Builder's Risk insurance experience
4-year college degree, preferably in Engineering
Experience working on project-specific policy
Knowledge of master builder's risk programs
Strong broker relationships with local and national retail and wholesale brokerages
Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail
Understanding of natural catastrophe modeling and pricing
Experience and proficiency in policy wording, broker manuscript forms review and policy issuance
Overall, team player with collaborative outlook - acting as a role model for more junior members of the team
Must be a self-starter
Willing to travel
Excellent communication skills, including advanced negotiation, communications, and presentation experience
