Job Overview

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Specialty Practice is an executive leader responsible for development and oversight, driving operational excellence, financial performance, and patient outcomes across all medical and surgery specialties. This role is dyadic partner with operational leaders to develop a strategic growth plan for specialty Fairview Health Medical Group and works closely with recruitment. This role is responsible for planning, developing, recruiting and oversight of specialty medical practices. Reporting directly to the CMO, the role works with the physician organization and operational dyad to achieve the results. Heavily focused on recruitment, practice model development, oversight and ongoing operational efficiency and clinical oversight. This role establishes quality and safety metrics for the specialty practices and holds the providers accountable for evidence-based care both in inpatient and outpatient settings. This role also engages with other specialty care providers in the system to achieve synchronous results and works with the FHMG primary care practice to establish a seamless journey for our patients and providers.

This Leadership position will be .6 Leadership and .4 Provider.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a proactive agent for Fairview in the current fluctuating health care environment and as a spokesperson for Fairview Health Medical Group; Specialty Practice by creating and articulating a clear vision for continued success in an evolving marketplace.
  • Design and maintain a business strategy for Fairview's "Specialties Practice" in totality including working with other system providers, developing physician service agreements, and other provider groups that provide care to our patients.
  • Collaborate with key leaders and departments to develop system strategic goals, revenue targets, develop action plans around practice productivity, quality, safety, patient experience, and provider experience.
  • Ensure effective development, evolution and implementation of FHMG Specialties Practice.
  • Ensures that a recruitment plan is developed and executed to promote program performance and growth in collaboration with the provider recruitment team.
  • Build relationships and ensure adequate communication mechanisms are in place to facilitate two-way communication with the local and nation specialty practice communities/networks to ensure Fairview's specialty practice is market competitive and exudes best community practice.
  • Pro-actively identify issues which may impact the stability of the network and initiate actions to address effectively;
  • Provide leadership and strategic vision to develop and operationalize standard processes relating to clinical programs and practice.
  • Work with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure that the plan for the specialty provider services is aligned with the other components of the clinical and academic components of the clinical enterprise.
  • Works to enhance group practice effectiveness and achieve operational and clinical goals. Promotes the use of evidence-based medicine and addresses cost drivers throughout specialty care.
  • Ensures scope of practice is clearly defined for each site and provider within specialty care.
  • Strong people management skills to ensure seamless operations and clinical care. Responds to escalated provider/staff conflict and patient complaints.
  • Hold specialties accountable for meeting productivity, quality and safety measures and efficient operations.
  • Develops and ensures competency of clinical staff through an OPPE/FPPE and professional practice review process.
  • Works with key stakeholders to address provider well-being and resiliency, ongoing leadership development and continuing medical education and provider engagement.
  • Ensures optimization of medical documentation and partners with revenue cycle on improvements as needed.
  • Actively engaged in innovative approaches to provider practice management, working with transformation office in implementing projects and seeking continuous and progressive improvements.
  • Working with the payor relations team to identify quality measures and operational metrics to align with the payor landscape and aligning our tactics.
  • Participate in provider compensation committee to ensure pay practices align with the market and participate in continuous review of market alignment.
  • Develop specialty practice provider leadership structure and expectations and directly supervise specialty physician practice medical leaders.
  • Develop overarching organizational alignment with the providers and foster a culture of collaboration and cross-functional relationships.
  • Use data to drive performance and lower cost of care.
  • Work with APP leadership to develop and implement an APP strategy for the specialty practices to expand access.


Required Qualifications
  • Medical doctorate degree (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O) or foreign equivalent from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Graduate of an accredited ACGME of AOA training program
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical or hospital practice
  • Minimum 10 years of management experience including physician administration
  • Board Certified with the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association.
  • Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
  • Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
