Job Description
The Operations Science Team utilizes Operations Research, Machine Learning, and Analytical techniques to solve complex supply chain problems. The team creates algorithms and optimization models to improve our customers' operational efficiency. This role leads the development of new tools and solutions to address complex supply chain problems. In this role, the Sr. Director of Operations Science identifies opportunities for applying advanced optimization techniques into the business.

Job Description
The Operations Science Team utilizes Operations Research, Machine Learning, and Analytical techniques to solve complex supply chain problems. The team creates algorithms and optimization models to improve our customers' operational efficiency. This role leads the development of new tools and solutions to address complex supply chain problems. In this role, the Sr. Director of Operations Science identifies opportunities for applying advanced optimization techniques into the business.
- Solves complex problems in warehousing, packaging and transportation that traditional systems and off the shelf software do not
- Ensures that solutions built by the Operations Science team are scalable and can be extended globally
- Manage and mentor junior team of data scientists, statisticians and programmers for projects and research initiatives; mentor junior technical personnel by helping them in not only advancing their technical skills but also help them understand the intricacies within complex supply chain operations and functions
- Understand supply chain operations, material handling flows, etc. and utilize the knowledge and chartering project objectives and plan
- Manage stakeholders with timing, approach and deliverables of project
- Identify opportunities for applying advanced optimization techniques across the supply chain
- Architect the development of new cloud based supply chain enterprise systems and applications, determining key design elements, technical specs, platforms and coding standards in Python or Java
- Define the business questions that need be answered and determine appropriate analytical models and approaches to solving such problems
- Endeavor to create new analytical approaches for the purpose of differentiating DHL and creating a competitive advantage
- Strive to improve the quality of analytics solutions on a consistent basis
- Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders
- Patent approaches and work with leading universities in researching future opportunities
- Solve problems within supply chain modelling (e.g., scheduling, vehicle routing, facility location, assignment problems, warehouse picking optimization advanced heuristics) by developing ad-hoc solutions or defining new analytical processes
- Lead the development of large-scale decision support tools based on optimization e.g., LP, MIP, NLP, etc...)
- Use large-scale simulation modelling, stochastic processes and optimization under uncertainty, forecasting and time series analysis, machine learning techniques and other relevant techniques to solve supply chain problems
Required Education and Experience
- Master or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Transportation Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field from tier 1 university
- 5 or more years in supply chain or logistics
- 5 or more years in developing analytical solutions
- Coding experience in object oriented languages like python/java
- Experience building high performance and high availability applications
- Extensive experience in application of optimization, simulation and advanced algorithms to supply chain problems
