S&T PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST, EXPERT
PPG Industries, Inc. has an S&T Product Development Chemist, Expert position in Cheswick, PA, responsible for contributing to PPG's development of highly innovative technical solutions for chemical coatings problems by formulating high-temperature resistant, insulating, and corrosion resistant coatings. Specific duties include: (i) planning and coordinating technical activities for new development projects; (ii) conducting lab preparation and performing chemical tests and investigations to support the development of new coating products, including designing high temperature coating testing procedures and conducting experimental formulations; and (iii) formulating new coatings or improving existing products with chemistries including epoxy, polyurethane, siloxane, and inorganic zinc silicate, in solvent-based high solids, solvent-less, and water-based technologies, primarily for high temperature exposures and corrosion protection in heavy-duty Protective and Marine markets.
Must have a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Polymers and Coatings Technology, or Chemical Engineering plus five (5) years of post-baccalaureate and progressively responsible experience in a related position.
Experience must include: (i) five (5) years with coatings formulation; (ii) three (3) years with spray apply coatings; and (iii) three (3) years with ASTM/ISO test standards for coatings.
Must have any experience with or knowledge of: (i) polymer chemistry; (ii) designing laboratory experiments using statistical tools to plan new product development projects; and (iii) searching and interpreting literature including patents, journal publications, and coating technology magazines to aid in new product development.
Experience can be concurrent.
