Nonprofit Organization is seeking a meticulous and experienced Grant Accountant to manage the financial aspects of their grant-funded projects. This role involves ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), overseeing post-award grant accounting, and maintaining accurate financial records using MIP accounting software. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant accounting, familiarity with New York State and federal grants, and proficiency in bank reconciliations, journal entries, and year-end closing processes.

Responsibilities:
- Grant Accounting & Compliance: Manage all financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and funding regulations, including federal, state, and private grants.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, ensuring alignment with specified requirements and organizational policies.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with program managers to develop and monitor grant budgets, track expenditures, and ensure proper fund allocation to avoid overspending or underutilization of funds.
- Journal Entries & Reconciliation: Perform accurate journal entries, reconcile grant-related accounts, and maintain the integrity of financial records.
- Year-End Close: Assist in the preparation and execution of year-end closing processes, ensuring all grant-related financial activities are accurately recorded and reported.
- Bank Reconciliations: Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure alignment between bank statements and organizational records.
- Audit Support: Maintain detailed financial documentation to support internal and external audits of grant-funded programs, addressing any questions or concerns raised during the audit process.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance grant tracking, reporting, and financial processes for efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in grant accounting or a similar role, with a strong understanding of GAAP and familiarity with New York State and federal grant regulations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MIP accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and IF functions.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance and grant compliance requirements is preferred.
- Detail-Oriented: Strong analytical skills and attention to accuracy in financial reporting.
- Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with program teams, funders, and finance staff.
