Job Summary
East Tennessee State University, College of Nursing, is seeking a full-time Staff Dentist at the Johnson City Community Health Center (JCCHC), a state-of-the-art facility on par with any of its kind in the United States. Funded by a generous grant from the U.S. Department of Health Resources and Services Administration, it was established through the vision of leaders at ETSU, the College of Nursing and the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, all of whom are dedicated to providing access to basic health care services for all in our community and region.
Under the direction of the Dental Clinic Manager/Executive Director, the staff dentist is responsible for the provision of professional, high-quality dental treatment and education and/or consultation to a broad range of patients at the Johnson City Community Health Center Dental Clinic.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position themself and balance. The employee must occasionally move (including lift, carry, push, and pull) up to 100 pounds or more. The employee must be able to perceive and respond to sounds and alarms; communicate effectively with others; be able to observe and monitor situations and details at close range in full and dimmed light. The employee may be required to move and/or stay in a stationary position in various settings for up to 12 hours at a time in addition to preparing and closing a clinical shift. Rapid mobility may also be required on occasion. Physical expectations of an assigned clinical facility may vary and be subject to change.
Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations.

- Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and dental science.
- Knowledge of community-based dental environment.
- Thorough understanding of the theories, methods and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis and treatment.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
- Able to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
- Able to offer guidance and supervision in a constructive and appropriate manner.

Required Qualifications
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in general dentistry.
- Current Iicensure in the state of Tennessee.
- Valid DEA license to prescribe narcotics.
- Current CPR/ AED certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional advanced degree in business, public health, healthcare administration or related field of study.
