Job Summary
Assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care of patients seen in the outpatient radiation clinic. Total care will be given according to the patient?s individual needs, including but not limited to the administration and charting of meds, symptom management, patient teaching and referral to community resources.
Essential Functions
Processes patient for clinic visit, which includes admission visit, follow-up visit, treatment/injection only visit, unexpected clinic visit. Performs holistic nursing assessment. Demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapy administration and safety principles, as well as patient side effects and appropriate interventions. Assists the Radiation Therapist with patient set up.. Safely administers medications as ordered. Documents per procedures accurately. Provides IV access care, triages IV problems, and provides patient/family instruction for peripheral or common central line devices. Manages patient care including telephone triage of patient and system issues across the health care continuum. Documents accurately and succinctly in the medical record. Facilitates and implements patient's requests for no code/no CPR, Durable Power of Attorney for health care, living will and hospice/palliative care referral. Assists with assessment, referral and follow through on financial and reimbursement issues. Maintains flow of clinic patients and functions cooperatively as a team member. Identifies and acts appropriately in all code situations, as per established protocols. Provides supportive listening to patients and families. Provides input at staff meetings, completes QMM, and supports CQI. Provides patient and family education utilizing guides and standard handouts/educational materials. Complies with all SVH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by Chief Therapist or designee.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience/Training
Minimum of three (3) years recent nursing experience in Oncology or outpatient Radiation Clinic preferred.
License/Certifications
Must maintain current licensure to practice registered nursing in the State of Washington. AHA (American Heart Association) Health Care Provider BLS required.
Other Skills
Must be able to communicate effectively and develop good interpersonal relationships with patients, other staff and visitors.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling, all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
