In the role of Staff Operations Engineer, you will use various data sources to trend performance and identify potential risks in the Western Interconnection. You will support situational awareness efforts by improving tools and developing displays that will help monitor the real-time health of the Western Interconnection. You will examine system conditions affecting the bulk power system and quickly and efficiently relay abnormal or emergency conditions to WECC management, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) staff, appropriate stakeholders, and governmental agencies.
You will also be assigned specific stakeholder groups within the WECC organization and NERC to ensure WECC is represented in reliability matters. You will act as liaison to these groups, providing technical support in applicable areas and coordinating group activities. You should understand electric industry operations, NERC Reliability Standards, and have strong business acumen.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $96,700 - $120,900 + discretionary pay + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and mid-point for the position across all locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will-
- Assist and participate in the NERC Performance Analysis, Situational Awareness, and Event Analysis programs as outlined in the NERC Rules of Procedure.
- Communicate insights, trends, and recommendations rooted in system data.
- Perform quantitative analysis, interpret data collections and create visualizations with system performance data.
- Help analyze system events that occur in the Western Interconnection.
- Examine system conditions during emergency events within the Western Interconnection; collect and distribute information in a timely manner to WECC management and NERC Situational Awareness staff.
- Help schedule and coordinate conference calls with entities and applicable regulatory agencies during abnormal system conditions.
- Coordinate activities with applicable WECC staff that focus on key emerging issues, risks, and uncertainties that affect or may affect the reliability of existing and future electric supply and transmission.
- Serve as a liaison to WECC and NERC committees, task forces, and work groups and provide technical leadership, direction, and support to these groups.
- Provide technical input to the WECC management team.
You will enjoy this role if you-
- Hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, an engineering degree in another related field, or related industry experience resulting in a demonstrated ability to perform the job duties.
- Have at least three to eight years of experience in bulk power transmission system operations.
- Possess a broad knowledge of electrical theory.
- Are familiar with Plant Information (PI) Systems.
- Understand NERC and WECC Reliability Standards.
- Have excellent organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Enjoy facilitating groups of industry technical experts and working effectively and closely with peers.
- Have excellent presentation, written, and spoken communication skills.
- Enjoy collaborating and sharing knowledge with peers.
- Are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Additional experience with Power BI is preferred.
